The Sinner Season 3

Spoiler alert....don't read if you haven't watched/ finished.

Has anyone else watched this yet? I loved the first two seasons but thought this one was terrible. So drawn out and dull.

The writers made the fundamental mistake which all bad crime shows do by making the detective too involved with the killer and then somehow having the killer know all the detectives close friends and family and their addresses so they are directly at risk. So boring and predictable.

Some great acting and new faces but I found myself skipping lots. Really disappointed.

I couldn't finish season 2 but finished this one. I enjoyed it (especially looking at Matt Bomer). I would like to here other peoples thoughts though on Matt's character.

NoToMisogyny · 22/06/2020 20:59

An halfway through and close to giving up. It’s so BORING. The main character’s descent from apparently happily married teacher and expectant father to utter weirdo is nuts!

Awkes · 22/06/2020 21:05

Agreed. Was a slog to finish it

zebbyzebbo · 23/06/2020 17:19

I liked the first two, but not this one. No question of innocence and too much psychological stuff, long and boring.

Awrite · 23/06/2020 22:02

I have given up after 2 episodes. Is it worth persevering?

I loved the first 2 series, especially the second.

Inkanta · 24/06/2020 05:05

I quite enjoyed it - was a bit different. I got quite frustrated with the detective and his decision making but could empathise with psychological manipulations going on. Good acting - particularly from Matt Bomer. Bill Pullman was overdoing the eye squinting though Smile

Inkanta · 24/06/2020 05:32

The story line at the beginning: - I must admit it didn't ring true that the detective would spend so much time pursuing Jamie Burns (Matt Bomer) for a confession, when Jamie's only crime was to delay calling for an ambulance. He didn't cause the car accident as such. His reckless friend could have killed them both. I'm not convinced his friend would have lived anyhow even if Jamie had called an ambulance straightaway.

zebbyzebbo · 24/06/2020 09:55

Given the nature of the other two series, I thought there would be more exploration into the effect of Nick/his past and maybe a twist related to his 'guilt'. But, no.

I'm now participating in this discussion as a way of justifying my having sat through the whole thing! 😂

LovingLen · 24/06/2020 21:30

Just watching it now, on episode 7, don’t really know what to think, it has moments of weirdness, really enjoyed the other 2, this is well, different

threesenoughthanks · 24/06/2020 22:22

Really enjoyed the first two but this one was definitely lacking. I was waiting for the twist. Were we supposed to feel sorry for Jamie? Oh he's just killing people because he's so deepConfused

Magicpaintbrush · 25/06/2020 09:08

I enjoyed this and found the central suspect more human and interesting than the first two series, however he and his friend Nick, omg what a pair of self obsessed nob-heads. So consumed by their own selfish need to be profound or whatever they just ruined their own lives and loads of other people's too. As for Mr Detective and the burying incident, Jesus wept.

Is it just me or does Jamie look like a cross between Henry Cavill and Greg Kinnear, like if you merged the two you would get him?

Enjoyed Susan from Friends in this, I thought she stole the show actually.

User647647 · 25/06/2020 12:43

I still have to watch the last episode and find myself postponing it.

As shallow as I may sound, i may not have watched all way through if not for Matt’s yumminess.

I’m also a bit bored of Bill Pullman’s low key role/acting, I want to shake him sometimes.

His daughter was quite unfair to cut contact with her son though (in my opinion)...
I also found Leela’s gay friend a bit intrusive.

AnneOfCreamCables · 25/06/2020 13:13

I felt this season missed the point of the first two seasons and why people watched. In the others we knew the main character was guilty from the beginning, it was then about finding out the mitigating circumstances that brought them there but like a PP I didn't feel we found out about mitigating circumstances this time.
When he started reciting all the Prickly Pear stuff, I thought there was going to be some kind of hypnosis or subliminal programming ... but nope. There was nothing to explain why he fell under Nick's spell. Unless the point of this season was that we're all responsible and that society is the mitigating circumstance? But that's weak, dark and makes any other season pointless.
Matt is gorgeous and Susan from Friends was fab. Bill Pullman annoyed me this season and I couldn't decide if it was his acting or the shoddy story.

DeborahAnnabelToo · 25/06/2020 13:17

Definitely a weaker season. It was just all too far fetched. Agree re:irritation at Bill Pullman's squinty-eyed acting (,though my dh does a great impression of him). It's one of those series which should really stop now as it's deteriorating but I see it's been renewed for a 4th 🙄

AnneOfCreamCables · 25/06/2020 13:23

Ooh! Maybe we could crowd-write the fourth season here ... Grin

The shot opens on a woman wearing a scarf (we'll later discover it's a MN scarf) . She is waiting at a suitable social distance from a freezer in a supermarket. The camera pans closer ... it is the freezer where they keep the MN chickens. The man lifting a chicken from the freezer laughs as he tells someone on his mobile that he plans to eat the entire chicken to himself.
Suddenly, the woman leaps forward, hits his head off the freezer door, batters him with the frozen chicken and leaves him for dead. As the blood seeps into the ice, the woman fixes her scarf, sits down and waits for Harry (for it is he!) to arrive.

DeborahAnnabelToo · 25/06/2020 15:54

Enter Harry, looking perplexed (which is his only expression to be fair). He locks eyes with the woman, who asks for his phone number, credit card, and house keys. He gives them to her then trails disconsolately after her, looking shifty again.

GrinGrinGrin Excellent.

As for Mr Detective and the burying incident, Jesus wept.

I know! I was like, oh my god - noooooooo don't do it Shock

AnneOfCreamCables · 26/06/2020 11:13

I couldn't decide what annoyed me more. Harry climbing into the hole ... or his colleague sycophantically acting as though that made Harry the best detective ever!

Inkanta · 26/06/2020 13:28

Yes - time for Harry to call it a day I think! Can't believe he wasn't sacked. He doesn't feed back to the team. If asked a question just looks sideways and says nothing.

And poor Eli getting in the middle of all this. Why didn't Harry tell his daughter to keep him away, with the dangerous guy hanging around. Said he wanted to help out with babysitting!

JorisBonson · 26/06/2020 13:30

I loved it! It couldn't breathe at that but with the tube.

I think Harry will be the baddy next series.

kennypppppppp · 26/06/2020 15:05

I haven't seen it all yet but I love it so far and I think if Rob Lowe and Bradley Cooper had a baby it would be Jamie.
Also love Susan bunch. Knew I recognised the voice and it only took me about twenty minutes to work out it was Susan, which was a personal best for me as I usually have to Google.
Also love leela hair but would have preferred leela spelt a different waay. Not sure wwhy that's irked me.

kennypppppppp · 26/06/2020 15:08

I've not read the spoilers but there was a very scary thriller called Paula which might be on iplayer still which had a tube in it (cue the suspenseful music) . Was bloody good. The programme, not the tube specifically.

Doodar · 26/06/2020 15:17

this one was rubbish, nearly didn't finish it, 2 episodes too long.

FancyPuffin · 26/06/2020 15:28

I was disappointed in it, much preferred the other two seasons.

I kept thinking there would be a reveal that there was history between Jamie and Susan off Friends, particularly after the inexplicable naked drawing bit, but, no Hmm
