Euro 96

So been watching some of the Euro 96 matches on the ITV channels. I was 13 at the time but remember it so fondly..
The country seemed to be really united then, I remember the high street full of people partying. And grown men crying when we were knocked out..!
Life seemed more simple back then, Brexit was a word that didn’t exist, terrorism was something that seemed more infrequent in the UK, house prices were a heck of a lot cheaper!!
Obviously the internet was in it’s early stages, social media didn’t exist, and not everyone had mobile phones.
Anyone else that fab summer of 96?..

Best summer ever 96. I would have been 12. I wish I was bring my children up in that era. I long for it 😢

I remember this time fondly. Loved Euro 96, my sister and I supported Netherlands with their grass band and hot players Blush we also enjoyed the Atlanta Olympics and watched the gymnastics religiously! I was16 at the time and would love to go back to 1996, would do so many things differently.

Brass band, I meant!

Best summer ever. I'm not even into football but it just added to the excitement of that period. I was 14, got my first boyfriend, then a Saturday job (my own money to spend, woohoo!) paying the grand sum of £1.78 an hour. Spent two weeks hanging out with a French girl and showing her around my town, so saw and did loads. Blur, Oasis and Catatonia in full swing.

Those were the days!

Hotel bar in The Hague, work trip, very very drunk with Dutch football fans watching the England - Netherlands match!

Brilliant night!

It was brilliant! The best time! Just finished A Levels and was heading to uni. Out drinking with friends all the time. The football was so exciting, the music! Dh is 5 years younger than me and he feels the same!

It wasn’t even necessarily about football, it just brought an amazing atmosphere to the country, which anyone of a certain age will remember.
I don’t think we’ll have anything like that again in this country, not in the way it was in 96.
