Any one watching this little gem . It's really good it is like a spoof documentary the CEO's are so cringeworthy and the Hotel Inspector is vile. I bet we have all come across people with inflated egos in our working lives like this lot .

I love this, even though I feel a bit bad for joining in with the mocking of the afflicted. My husband was sneering at me for watching it but now he is hooked too.

Heather from the Kegworth hotel IS Pauline from The League of Gentlemen. The one who worked in the job centre and said, “Okey dokey, pig in a pokey!”. I defy anyone to disagree with me.

That inspector guy: words fail me. It is clear that he has affected a whimsical style of dress to distract from his having no soul! Those Driffield women should take a contract out on him.

Mark and Terii (“two is Terii”) obviously loathe each other and are waiting to throw the other under a bus the first opportunity they get. It is fascinating. Especially because they are both so dopey.

Also, the values in the head office don’t seem to be making much of an impact. I have seldom seen such a defeated-looking bunch of people. Half of them do that groaning thing when they get out of their office chair and walk as if they are on their way to the gallows. The only ones who don’t have faces like slapped arses are the deluded Australian CEO - seriously, who put him in charge? Would you give a monkey a gun? - the dreaded Mark’n’Terii and those two so-called marketing managers who still managed a fake grimace whilst defeatedly running on the treadmill at the conference.

Can’t wait for next week!

DramaAlpaca · 27/05/2020 23:17

The only time I went to the hotel the inspector visited in the first episode a few of us had the most awful meal and had to complain, something I'm usually reluctant to do, so I'm afraid I had very little sympathy for them and was cheering on the irritating inspector.

I watched that first episode but I won't bother with any more, mainly because I found the commentary really annoying.

It's a shame, I thought I'd enjoy it. That sort of thing is usually right up my street.

Iamthewombat · 27/05/2020 23:21

Was that the one in the lakes? Where he was complaining about the emergency cord in the bathroom HANGING DOWN?

DramaAlpaca · 27/05/2020 23:26

Yup. He was over zealous, I know that, but that place ruined a special evening for my family. Never again!

TerrapinStation · 28/05/2020 14:02

I happened upon this, is it a series, it's a bit of an embarassing watch, the makers seemed to be deliberately mocking the hotel group on the one I've seen

IHaveBrilloHair · 28/05/2020 14:05

Oooh, what channel is it on, it sounds right up my street.

fuckinghellthisshit · 28/05/2020 14:08

This sounds right up my street - what Channel?

TerrapinStation · 28/05/2020 14:21

@IHaveBrilloHair

Oooh, what channel is it on, it sounds right up my street.
It's on channel 4, I'd guess you can get it on catch up prepare to cringe Grin
IHaveBrilloHair · 28/05/2020 14:23

Excellent, thanks.
I love cringey shite Grin

thefuriousfuggler · 28/05/2020 15:53

We caught a few minutes of this whilst channel hopping. My ghast was properly flabbered to find out that it was a real life documentary.

motorcyclenumptiness · 28/05/2020 19:40

Terii
I thought the narrator said 'Terry with two eyes'. I was waiting for 'Terry with three eyes' to put in an appearance.

MrsSlocombesPussy · 29/05/2020 11:16

There is definitely a David Brent vibe to the two blokes in head office.

covetingthepreciousthings · 29/05/2020 12:45

What channel is this on? I'd wondered about watching it but after reading this thread I'll definitely watch it now, even though it will probably make me cringe.

Looking forward to seeing "Pauline" Grin

YellowHats · 29/05/2020 18:13

The inspector is like a dementor, going to hotels and sucking any soul out of the place Grin

Hes so passive aggressive and then comes away talking about forming a good relarionship lol

spababe · 29/05/2020 18:15

My DS (age 20, home from Uni) and I watched it together. We couldn't stop laughing about the company missions: 'Give a ', 'Smash It'
Obviously DON'T give a about putting their posters up straight on the walls and fail to see the irony. They then cut to a very bored sounding telephone operator who failed to give a as well!
The sad thing is that the staff in the hotels obviously care very much indeed and are the heroes of the business. The escape rooms look amazing and what a great business idea. They are sadly let down by the buffoons at the top who are too busy doing things that aren't important for their own amusement. Just like the Chuckle Brothers those two.
David Brent is alive and kicking at Best Western.

fuckinghellthisshit · 29/05/2020 18:20

Watched last night - it was a gift! Thank you OP :)

Swingoutsistersledge2 · 29/05/2020 21:07

Just caught up with the first two episodes. Used to work in a hotel so I love this sort of TV. The characters and commentary is brilliant. Loved the lady who is never late for work cos she lives next door Grin Almost makes me want to get back into the industry.

IHaveBrilloHair · 02/06/2020 17:42

The couple crying as the Bridal Suite was so nice?
It was like a shit Premier Inn, the othe wedding had me cringeing myself inside on.
Marco Pierre White is clearly short of cash to get involved.
Bloody loved it.

Iamthewombat · 04/06/2020 10:10

I feel cheated that the series ended up being so short! I hope they bring it back.

If only to see Mark’s face when the 26 ex-Hallmark hotels join the group, eclipsing his job centre hotel triumph. The sight of him sitting on that little commuter train to Luton writing things down in a file (shopping list? Favourite footballers?) and trying to look like a big time businessman was hilarious. Poor old Mark.

I was a bit dubious about the 26 new hotels though. The LGH group, from whom the hotels were acquired (and when I say acquired, I mean that those hotels’ admin and booking business was acquired, not the bricks and mortar hotels themselves) are one of the franchisees for the Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza brands in the UK, and also operate the Hallmark brand. They don’t appear to own the hotels, they just operate them on behalf of the owners of the buildings, who might be private individuals, REITS or other investment vehicles.

Intercontinental Hotels own the brands and franchise them to LGH and others, and if a hotel is starting to look a bit tatty or outdated they will remove the franchise from the hotel owner. So the owner of the hotel needs to find another brand to associate itself with.

Which is a long way of saying, what Best Western appear to have ended up with is 26 of the crapper ex-Hallmark branded hotels that weren’t considered good enough for the Hallmark brand name. Is that something to boast about? At least that inspector guy will be kept busy.

I enjoyed every minute of this show because it showed women like my family on TV and they aren't often seen. The receptionist, the chamber maids - why sneer at these lovely women who work hard, are kind and do so much of the most thankless cleaning and caring work in this country. I found the sneery voice over a bit unkind, why not take a light touch and let us make our own mind up. There was nothing wrong with that bridal suite, it was lovely, and a reasonable price I would think.

It makes me sad to think that many viewers are sneering and cringing rather than appreciating that we are all different and not everyone needs Claridges to feel special.

Iamthewombat · 04/06/2020 12:50

The viewers are not sneering at the chamber and hardworking hotel staff. They are laughing at the over-inflated egos of the senior people in the Best Western franchise group.

The voice over script was very kind to the people doing the real work.

Did you watch the same programme?

No one was sneering at the receptionist of chambermaids. I thought the tone was light, admittedly slighting mocking the more senior staff but in good humour.

I have to say that I was surprised at the inspector merrily browsing grindr, I thought that was a dangerous hook up app

fuckinghellthisshit · 04/06/2020 14:17

I didn't at first and then it crept in, and Philomena Crump's voiceover didn't help.
"Tracii, with 2 i's" for example - why, why do we need to know her name is spelled that way? The long lingering shots of
I am really tired today and a bit mardy tbh. I watched it last night and enjoyed it but hate the thought of people 'cringing' as mentioned on this thread at people who are, quite honestly, amongst Britain's finest.

The Hotel Inspector is hilarious and deliberately so I imagine.

Sorry for whinging, I really enjoyed it.

Iamthewombat · 04/06/2020 15:21

The only sneering I can see on this thread is my husband sneering at me for watching it, until he got drawn in!

A PP said that a wedding at the Fowey hotel had her cringing but she’s allowed to dislike someone’s choice of wedding dress and ceremony. It doesn’t mean that she’s disparaging the people taking part or working there.

I hope your day improves!

Ps I’d say that if Terii two ‘i’s didn’t want the spelling of her name to be remarked upon, she probably wouldn’t have chosen to spell it that way. I bet that’s not the spelling on her birth certificate!
