How do I stop this when watching Netflix?

Two things I hope I can describe properly.

I have a Netflix button on my Sony tv remote. When I open Netflix and press the who's watching option it immediately comes up with a programme I searched once but didn't watch. Rather than the thing I'm currently watching. Annoying. But not as annoying as...

I search the for something to watch and it immediately starts playing the episode in the background, while I'm trying to read the synopsis of the screen .

Does anyone know to disable this? I want to start watching when I'm ready! Not have it start and have to scramble to stop it.

Does that make sense?

Go to the netflix website and log in, you can make changes to your profile there. Remove the rogue item from your viewing history, and then disable autoplay preview
