Anyone watching this Netflix series? I'm on episode 3 so far and hooked, real escapism especially with no summer holidays to look forward to Grin

OP posts:

I started watching it one night when I couldn't sleep (but it sent me to sleep). I think I will try again. Liked the premise and thought it might be nostalgic in terms of the soundtrack (assuming there is one?).

abcde11 · 17/05/2020 22:30

Watched it all over the weekend, put it on for background noise as it didn't look like something I would normally be interested in but I loved it!

lobsterkiller · 18/05/2020 15:15

Watched over the weekend. didn't think I'd like it but loved it.

SophieGiroux · 18/05/2020 23:24

Watched the first four episodes so far and enjoying it. Odd bit of comedy as well works well. Scene with the banana boat in the first episode was brilliant.

famousforwrongreason · 24/05/2020 00:27

I love it! Fun and dark, a bit of intrigue, crime frame with decent music and mega eye candy in the shape of Boxer Flowers

Jillyhilly · 24/05/2020 13:44

I’ve no idea what to make of it. I’m enjoying it and it’s great harmless fun with fabulous shots of Ibiza. I’ve never been but it really does seem idyllic. And I’m a sucker for anything 90s.

But I keep saying to myself - hang on, that would NEVER happen. Like Zoe harpooning Boxer on the first day she turns up on the island. Or Marcus’ wife, forget her name, teetering around her ridiculous sex parties in high heels and a kimono. Or the entire Laurence Fox character. And all the clubbing scenes seem weirdly contrived, as if the writers researched club culture by looking at a few YouTube videos. The whole thing has an odd inconsistency to it, as if it has t quite decided what it’s trying to be.

I could do without the random boob shots too.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 24/05/2020 13:55

I like the simmering attraction between Zoe and Boxer but he doesn't do it for me.

Jillyhilly · 24/05/2020 14:03

He’s definitely an attractive fellow. Of course he’s also a psychopath who tries to drown people in swimming pools or murder them with boat hooks, so doesn’t really do it for me either.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 25/05/2020 08:43

Finished it. Loved it for the location, beautiful homes, gorgeous clothes and the evocation of the hedonistic 90s (even if it wasn't quite spot on). It was refreshing to have a 'whodunnit' not set against a backdrop of grey skies and cold weather.

Zoe seemed to be morphing into the party girl she clearly would have been if Axel hadn't died when he did.

Do we reckon there will be a second series?

AnyFucker · 25/05/2020 08:44

Absolute shite

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 25/05/2020 08:53

@AnyFucker it was a bit like a parody of other things a lot of the time, I thought, but it worked as a binge-watch box set for a bank holiday weekend.

AnyFucker · 25/05/2020 08:56

Try The Alienist for something a bit more substantial

Not much sunshine though Smile

Trews2019 · 25/05/2020 09:00

Watchable shite though!

foxyknoxy30 · 25/05/2020 09:03

Ahhh Boxer

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 25/05/2020 09:04

Oh I loved The Alienist, although it reminded me very much of Ripper Street.

Anyone on here a Barbara Vine fan? I think White Lines reminded me in story type of the sort of thing she wrote (would love to see some more of those stories turned into TV dramas).

eggyfartpants · 25/05/2020 13:44

I've just finished it....but can't work out how Axel's body got from Ibiza to where it was found in the desert. Did I miss something or is it unexplained?

zonkin · 25/05/2020 13:49

I enjoyed the first few episodes but it quickly went downhill. Watched it until the end as I hoped it would get better and I had committed watching time to it already. I would not recommend it.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 25/05/2020 13:51

I don't think they told us but assume Marcus and his wife took it there?

I was so distracted with everything going on (and all the fab fashion) that I didn't really pay full attention to trying to guess whodunnit.

ClementineTangerine · 25/05/2020 13:59

I thought the first episode or two was alright, the middle went really down hill and it picked up again toward the end. So disappointed in the ending though, and I couldnt stand all those terrible manchester accents.

I thought zoe's character was ridiculous, she did so many annoying and stupid things and brought everything on herself but then blamed everyone else. What a knobhead.

LittleRa · 25/05/2020 14:04

Quite cheesy but an easy watch and a bit of fun. Reminded me a bit of Death in Paradise but a bit darker with more sex and drugs. Some of the crazy plot line twists reminded me of Revenge.

Izzabellasasperella · 25/05/2020 17:54

I spent some time on Ibiza in my youth so I liked looking at the beautiful scenery(although a lot was filmed elsewhere in Spain)
The show was OK. I didn't understand how they managed to get permission to build and run the clubs, I'm pretty sure in the 90's the club scene was sewn up.
Also why didn't her Dad put his foot on the brake? 😊

Jillyhilly · 25/05/2020 18:54

Watched the entire thing now and I’m coming down on the “absolute shite” side. Still quite enjoyed it, but Zoe as a main character just wasn’t consistent or believable or interesting enough to carry the plot, IMO, and I couldn’t really be bothered about any of them. My feeling at the end of it was distinctly “meh”.

kennypppppppp · 25/05/2020 20:17

I got to episode six and stopped caring. Plus Laurence fox makes me want to punch something

northernstars · 28/05/2020 22:05

I feel the same about Lawrence Fox but Boxer though...

AwwDontGo · 29/05/2020 10:14

I watched it but felt it got more and more shite as it went on. It had good elements to it but not enough. It would have been a lot better if they had condensed it into two or three hours.
