Bordertown - If you like Scandi Noir

The third series of Bordertown became available on Netflix this week.
Ashamed to report that I watched all 10 x 1 hour programmes in 2 days.
Has anyone else seen it?

If you are not aware of this cop series - it is set in a town close to Finland's border with Russia. Newly established serious crimes unit's (SECRI) secret weapon is Kari Sorjonen - a bit of a crime solving savant.
IMBD says - "Quirky police detective, in Finland, delves into his mind palace to solve despicable crimes all the while trying to keep his family together. If Sherlock was based in Finland this would be it."

It is seriously good.

I started to watch the first series ages ago and didn't really get into it.

Maybe it's time to give it another go. I love these northern settings.

Apparently so 😀 - thanks for the heads up though. Sounds right up my street and I hadn’t spotted it! So your post has not been in vain 👍

I love it and can't wait to start season 3, just need some lockdown alone time!!!

rosegoldwatcher · 18/05/2020 22:09

Thanks peeps. No longer feeling like rosey-no-mates!

Like this series but a bit grisly!

user1484 · 19/05/2020 06:38

I loved season 1 but didn’t get into season 2, not interested in Russian plot.
Do I need to have seen season 2 to watch season 3?
Or should i revisit season 2?

rosegoldwatcher · 19/05/2020 10:47

User1484 The first two episodes of season 2 are set mostly in Russia - concerning Lena and Katja's backstories but the rest of season 2 is set in Finland (from what I recall.)
Definitely worth watching season 2 as the overall story arc builds.

The first episode of season 3 fills in the details of the 'murderous au pair in the attic' scenes from the first episode of season 1.

Thanks, I’ll go back to season 2 today!

mrwalkensir · 19/05/2020 22:31

just starting episode 4...

user1484 · 20/05/2020 08:25

Just got into it again!

Two things,

I had forgotten how gorgeous Nico is (and I’m not into bearded men)

Also, the scenery is beautiful, those endless forests, would love to visit someday.

rosegoldwatcher · 20/05/2020 09:31

One day I will visit Scandinavia and Finland (or I can dream...)
Nico is indeed lovely looking - he reminds me of Jake Gyllenhaal.

That’s right! i can’t believe I didn’t notice it before.

DS2 tipped us off about this one. He was watching it to practice his Finnish - he moves there next month. We really enjoyed it but you do need to start at the beginning.

mrwalkensir · 03/06/2020 22:22

still enjoying it - a bit sorry for the daughters and their logical but stressful lives!

rosegoldwatcher · 04/06/2020 17:14

@mrwalkensir - yes! In real life those two would never be friends would they? Janina so serious and well behaved and Katja the navel baring party girl.
I really hope they make a series 4 but fear that this one concludes to thoroughly for a follow up.

Ooh - noticed today that a new series of Dark (the German time travelling one) begins on 27th on Netflix.

rosegoldwatcher I can understand that they become friends as two outsiders, but think Katja would have learnt to listen to her mother by now when she warns her ! :)

Zog14 · 04/06/2020 23:21

Yes, have loved all three series of this. I am a big fan of Scandi Noir though. I like the flawed character of Sorjonen but wouldn’t want to be married to him!

I have just noticed that a new series of Cardinal is coming to I player soon. I enjoyed them and the earlier series were dark With occasional picturesque snowy backgrounds. Maybe good for Scandi Noir fans?

countrygirl99 · 05/06/2020 08:45

Apparently season 4 was scheduled for release next summer but, like everything else, is delayed.

rosegoldwatcher · 05/06/2020 09:07

@countrygirl99 - that is good news!

Ooh thanks for this. I didn't know. Will fill in the gaps between the weekly episodes of Cardinal, having binge watched the first 2 seasons on Amazon Prime.
