Ah this was a lovely treat to watch tonight, incredible talent.

Amazing - really reassuring after the disappointing piano final last week. I felt that none of the pianists had much personality at alll - Beethoven sounding as inspiring as Hanon. SO it was great to hear so many quirky woodwind players. I loved the one who won but also the recorder player and the clarinettist. (And even the flautist and bassoonist would have won the piano final hands down based on last night.)

I did wonder if part of the issue was that there were no Asian players in the woodwind final and so there was a much more European feel of personality over technique in the woodwind?

We loved it in our house too, they were all lovely and I could have listened to any of them again. We did actually pick the winner though, he really conveyed his enjoyment and expression.

I felt they were all amazing but some were more ' watch me playing' rather than ' be part of this'.

Love hearing about their lives but feel sad that my child won't see someone like her - state educated, with a regional accent - they all attend junior conservatoire etc, just out of most people's reach regardless of musical potential. And yes I know they have bursaries but you can't get to that level without significant investment.
