Help remembering 90s(?) tv show

I have been trying to remember an old tv show I watched in the 90s. It was live action. It's very vague, but I'm sure the guy was called Simon Green and it was a mystery solving show of some kind. I can picture the guy really vividly, and I know I've seen him in other stuff since, and always think of this show, but it's driving me mad I can't remember the name of the show, or enough info to IMDb it.

Any ideas? Or is it all some Covid19 induced hallucination?

Was it crime traveller with Michael French?

BacktoB · 01/05/2020 22:23

No it wasn't, but that was a great show!

Was it a British or American show?

BacktoB · 01/05/2020 22:32

British.

Set in a rural area, perhaps Scotland? The main actor was greying at the time - prob mid 40s, and had quite squidgy lips. I thought he might have been called Professor Green, but that only brings up the new Prof. Green if I google.

Hamish McBeth?

BacktoB · 01/05/2020 22:41

No. It was def aimed at kids. And was much more mystery solvey. I think they were trying to break into some secret facility, but I don't know why!

Any of these? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:1990s_British_crime_television_series

My dh loves Crime Traveller!

HyggeTygge · 01/05/2020 22:42

Oh it's a kids' show?

BacktoB · 01/05/2020 22:46

Yes, sorry. Of course it's not obvious that a show I watched in the 90s is a kids show to anyone who doesn't know how old I am.

Kids show.

BBC or ITV?

Mapril · 01/05/2020 22:56

It's A Mystery?

BacktoB · 02/05/2020 09:51

Not It's a mystery @Mapril, it was a drama show.

Can't remember what channel, @WatcherintheRye.

gah this is going to bug me even though I'm sure I haven't watched it! Was it in the kind of after-newsround slot before Neighbours or was it more younger kids'?
It wasn't the Demon Headmaster, was it?

HyggeTygge · 02/05/2020 13:34

So the main character was an adult not a kid? Were there kids helping him?

BacktoB · 02/05/2020 16:28

@HyggeTygge, there were kids helping him. And a woman who think was like a Linda Barron type, but not Lynda Barron.

It wasn't the Demon Headmaster. Funnily enough watching the new Demon Headmaster with DD1 is what stirred this all up. It was similar to that though. Quite dramery, not for younger kids.

neverearlythoughItry · 04/05/2020 07:20

Trapped?

HyggeTygge · 04/05/2020 13:51

Stillananimal I don't remember that at all but surely that must be what @BacktoB was thinking of?

BacktoB · 04/05/2020 14:03

@stillananimal Yes! Yes, yes, yes! That's it. Jack Green. OK. And I had been sure it had an environmental element, but thought I might have been confused by his name!

I am so happy - and the episodes are on YouTube! Excellent lockdown viewing for the family!

Thanks @HyggeTygge for you support and the tag!

Oh! I was about to post a link to Timebusters. That was a great kid's time travel mystery game show around the same time. Hardly anyone seems to remember it but it was brilliant! 'Timebusters, let's go!' Grin
