Worth getting?

I prefer American made dramas usually for binging but I'm browsing a list of content on BritBox and seeing shows on there I like, are the full sets?

Also I only have a fire tablet to watch on is this a platform it works on?

Disney...I'm generally not a fan of Disney for a whole load of reasons including their historic issues with bigotry but I am a huge Star Wars fan and marvel fan and there are quite a few other films in their content I'm unable to access elsewhere

I found the user interface on Britbox frustrating to negotiate but I was using a TV: it might be better on a tablet. There didn't seem to be any facility to set a watch list, and it remembered what episode I was watching but not the exact location so everytime I stopped it would reset to the beginning. I liked the range of programmes and would like to use it but only when it is more user friendly!

Graphista · 26/04/2020 19:20

That would do my head in!

If they're going to do this and charge for it - it really needs to work at least as well as current streaming services.

Think I'll leave it until they get the "bugs" worked out.

Ds had been going on about Disney Plus for a while because of Star Wars so when lockdown happened it was a no brainier. We all love The Mandalorian & Clone Wars.

Graphista · 27/04/2020 23:11

See it might be worth it just for Star Wars content

Britbox is annoying - i was trying to watch Midsomer Murders in order and there are loads of crap 'curated' lists of various actors fave episodes.

I haven't had the problem that the previous poster had with each episode restarting though. Ive been casting from the britbox app from my phone to tv via chromecast

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 27/04/2020 23:29

Disney+ is great. Britbox needs work and Torchwood

healthylifestylee · 27/04/2020 23:31

We have Netflix prime and now tv so I can only comment on those
Signed up for prime with the free trial but live the quick delivery and tv
Now tv is expensive as we have a large bundle¿ however there's a lot on there

We only signed up to finish watching a series and then have kept now TV going, I find it has a large amount of movies inc Disney films on there and a lot of box sets. The series we were watching had the episodes on now the same day or day after they were aired which was great. You can get different passes with now tv which may suit you well?

Prime I like the amount on there and find they change what's on there monthly maybe. Plenty to rent as well

Netflix- I love Netflix. I find they always have a favourite film of mine on there and usually can find something to watch. Good variety. I do find you can miss things because of how it targets certain things at you based on your viewing history

Did considered Disney as it wasn't looking to be a huge cost but really unless we change our now tv pass there's no need for us ( we have no kids so Disney would be for us and I have a lot on DVD)

AldiAisleOfCrap · 29/04/2020 18:29

Britbox is a nightmare no apps for fire stick Xbox , my LG tv as it’s too old etc. Mirrored it using Apple TV but it’s still irritating won’t be using it after the free trial.
Disney plus is fab, join through 02 if you can if not topcashback or Quidco.

MrsSiba · 08/05/2020 00:48

EE were doing a promo for 6 months free of Britbox so I have signed up.

I don't think I would pay for what is essentially access to an archive as we have Netflix too and I find it much better especially for kids stuff.

Gingernaut · 24/12/2020 17:30

Sorry to resurrect a zombie thread, but like the OP, I'm curious - what's on Britbox?

Is The Repair Shop on it? Death in Paradise?

If it's essentially an archive, why is the home page advertising "Britbox Originals"?

ToastieSnowy · 24/12/2020 17:34

As a Star Wars fan you MUST get Disney + for The Mandalorian. You now have two seasons to binge watch. It’s amazing. No contest. Sod spitting image Wink

ToastieSnowy · 24/12/2020 17:36

My youngest has systematically watched the entire marvel universe over the last year and a half. Well worth it.

You could always get Disney + for a couple of months, cancel then try Britbox for a time

Pipandmum · 24/12/2020 17:39

I got Disney for Mandelorian and did watch sine Star Wars but I've seen them about a million times. Not sure its worth it

LovingLen · 25/12/2020 22:16

You can get 6 months free BritBox if you have BT internet, I can only watch it through Apple TV box though as no app on TV as it is not new enough

Gingernaut · 27/12/2020 09:46

So.....

Disney+ not BritBox?

GhostPepperTears · 12/01/2021 18:26

Disney+ is very good. Britbox is a bag of shite (in my very humble opinion).

peoplearepeople · 13/01/2021 13:11

Disney+ is ok, but not great. I can imagine it being worth it if you have young kids that are into Disney though. I paid for a years subscription last year but I won't be renewing. We love the Marvel universe and Star wars, but already own all the films etc. I expect we'll resub for the odd month or so once things like the Loki series come out. The entire Simpsons back catalogue is nice to have as well.
We have been so disappointed with Britbox. We signed up for the free trial, but won't bother carrying on with it. The interface is awful, and most of all it just doesn't have enough series that I like on it that aren't available elsewhere. I've searched for so many series on it that I think should be there only to find they aren't. I was actually shocked at how little is on it. I'll probably watch the new series of Spitting image and then bin it.
Love Netflix and to a slightly lesser extent amazon prime tv.

Comefromaway · 03/02/2021 22:33

We got Disney Plus at the start of lockdown when both kids were sent home from school and exams cancelled.

Then they released Hamilton & put Newsies on.

Then The Mandalorian became our family Friday night CHIPPY TEA front of the TV programme.

Now it’s Wanda Vision and we are re-watching Agents of Shield.

Best money we’ve spent.

SallyTimms · 03/02/2021 22:37

I will give Disney+ credit as it is extremely easy to cancel, and then reinstate at a later date. I cancelled it, and then reinstate it over school holidays in lockdown.
