I'm after some suggestions for things to watch with children aged 9 and 12. We have Netflix and Prime.

Thanks in advance 🙂

I've been trying to think - your 12 year old has a lot more options than your 9 year old, depending on how the younger one copes with scarier stuff & any choice language, but the more kid-oriented options might be too babyish for your older one! How about some of the reality TV options? We really enjoyed Baby Ballroom, Next in Fashion and there are quite a few baking and desserts type shows, as well as the cheerleading and other American series on Netflix. A series of unfortunate events with Jim Carey might tick both boxes and my older one is currently sitting through Malory Towers on BBC, maybe more to see Big Mandy from This Country.

The Studio Ghibli films are great! Also A Series of Unfortunate Events was very entertaining.

Thanks for the suggestions so far 🙂

Youngest copes better with scary stuff than eldest 😁

Once Upon a Time on Netflix

We love Death in Paradise and Shakespeare and Hathaway, they're both Murder mystery type programmes with little gore.

Helmetbymidnight · 02/04/2020 17:37

I was just going to start a thread on this. I need help. We watch TV together every evening - its the fecking highlight of my day. We're running out of good stuff.

We're watching The Good Place right now but we've nearly finished. Now, there are some massively inappropriate jokes but I'm hoping the kids don't get them. We love it.

Also watch Race Across the World.

Loved Stranger things.

Going to investigate some of those suggested here, but would love more recommendations PLEASE!

Dragon Prince on Netflix is fabulous

Joseph's technicolor dream coat is on YouTube this weekend as part of 'the show must go on' series of shows. Bright and cheery film if they like musicals.

Helmetbymidnight · 10/04/2020 21:28

watched first ep of 'once upon a time' - fab, perfect for us- thank you for the recommendation.

rosybell · 11/04/2020 08:36

I agree with the Dragon Prince - brilliant, my 8 year old (& me) loved it.

If you need a good belly laugh Nailed It! on Netflix is worth a look. It’s a baking competition show where 3 really inept bakers are challenged to bake an insanely difficult celebration cake in not enough time. It’s like an anti-bake off and the results are hilarious. We roared with laughter in the episode where they made the Donald Trump bust cakes. The episodes are short, only 25 min, so not a big time commitment if you hate it. We’ve only watched the US version, though it’s spawned lots of international spin-offs.

Raising Dion is fab

Riverhouse · 05/09/2020 19:20

White Collar on Netflix is good. We're watching it with kids about your age and an older teen.

Ayuayuayu · 08/09/2020 19:24

Stranger things would be good for that age
