So I had a look and I couldn't find a thread for this series (apologies if there is one already and if someone could link me!) so I thought I'd start one.

Who is looking forward to the new series starting tonight at 8bells on BBC2??

I still don't know what Susan brings to the show. Is it just the Beeb's attempt to make the show less penis heavy?

PotterHead1985 · 08/04/2020 20:33

Not sure about these starters

I think it stops the chef judge doing the presenting, too (often badly) and there's less of the painful, awkward scripted 'converstaions' between the chefs with her there. I think shes better after a few episodes.

jay55 · 08/04/2020 20:38

Nettles, terrific idea for the banquet Hmmhere eat these weeds.

Pelleas · 08/04/2020 20:40

I'm not very thrilled by any of the dishes so far.

GrouchyKiwi · 08/04/2020 20:40

I liked the awkward judge-chef conversations where the judges could hardly cover how batshit they think the chefs are being.

PotterHead1985 · 08/04/2020 20:43

So disappointed in Susan - normally really like her and she's very quick on quizzes etc
But she seems to know nothing about cooking and her one joke: "I call it a pre-pudding pudding!" leaves my sides quite unsplit.

The egg made me feel queasy - practically raw egg white. Yuck!

And I wish they'd try to represent the books better; at least read the bits they claim to be influenced by.
And why do monkfish if the man was looking for a magic salmon?

Egghead68 · 09/04/2020 07:46

They need to ditch the presenter. Her presence is just embarrassing which is a shame as she is very funny in other things. I like having two courses one day though. I also like having the final judging blind (I think they used to do that in much earlier series).

LaMarschallin · 09/04/2020 08:42

Absolutely agree - seemed very counterintuitive not to have it blind.
I think (during the time it wasn't blind) they also used to tell the critics what marks each dish had got, which would be a complete red rag to some of them to show how much more they know than an actual chef.

Always find it interesting to see how the critics receive a dish compared with the professional chefs; often very differently.

Evening.

Hello hello. DH loves these double-cooking-show days. Grin

GrouchyKiwi · 09/04/2020 20:02

Those are dire scores, really. They'd better do well today.
