... A Detectorists / Dr Who mash-up?
Finished Series 3 of Detectorists last night (having known nothing about it at all until the Christmas special last, erm, Christmas). It’s beyond brilliant. But soporific.
Dr Who, on the other hand, is high-octane, non-stop adventure. And ought to be brilliant (as it has been in the past).
Every millisecond of Detectorists is a highly thought out masterclass in detail; filled with incandescently gentle humour arising out of spot-on characterisation. Dr Who has recently been a car crash of leaden dialogue articulated by turgid characters who completely fail to inject any sense of jeopardy into end-of-the world scenarios. I’ve held my breath more over every ring-pull or ‘spearhead’ discovered in a field.
Lance said at the end that “metal detecting is the closest we get to time travel”. I say we should campaign for Mackenzie Crook as next Dr Who show runner. And Toby Jones as ...
