Anyone else watching any of these from the 70s/80s? I was too young to remember them on tv.
Roald Dahl introduced the first few series, typical setting for a horror story, him sat in an armchair by the fireplace.
Some of the stories are quite dark , some amusing and mostly pretty predictable! Even though they are really dated, easy watching.
One that I saw recently was one of the original ones, Derek Jacobi plays a weird character who wonders around a town being the town jester. Only at the end, it turns out he was in disguise and is after revenge on a man that had framed him for a crime years earlier.
Also a man and a woman who are con artists plan to rob a mans house when he’s out, only to find he returns earlier than they thought and catches them in the act!
Anyone else got any memories?

Oh yes. That's right. Hammer house of horror. I got them confused. That episode really petrified me.

I watched an episode of tales of the unexpected recently with Joan Collins and it was great, the acting was so hammy though!

Me too @Pinkyrosie! At the time there was some wallpaper peeling off upstairs and I was too scared to go upstairs by myself in case it started bleeding!

There was also Armchair Thriller which scared me too!

Before Lamb to the Slaughter was on tv someone submitted it to a short story competition to She magazine under their own name and won! I'd just read it in one of Roald Dahl's books, must have been before he was famous, so I reported it. I did wonder whether he ever found out, as all i got from the magazine was a thank you letter.

I remember one where a couple had a lift in the house. The husband got stuck in the lift one day and the wife went on holiday and left him there.
Meanwhile writing postcards etc home so nobody would suspect.

I saw that one a few days ago. Also found the Bee one weird.
I seem to remember Joan Collins in one but can't remember which one.
As a teenager I loved being terrified of the Dracula films

Much later it was The Silence of the Lambs that gripped me and Friday the 13th part 2 got me jumping out of my skin several times and mum had a nose bleed from fright.

I'm sure it was one of these where a woman was buried alive by her husband and someone could hear her but no one would believe them. The person ended up digging and you see the buried woman's arm reach up and grab them.
Not sure if same episode or my brain is mixing them up but I also remember a man then waking up in a boxed room and every day the box gets smaller until coffin sized then buried.

I had nightmares about it. Still can't believe my parents used to let me watch it. Or the twilight zone.

I have all these on DVD. The one about the weird landlady who drugged then stuffed the young men staying at her house totally creeped me out. I must've been 10/11 when I saw that. The opening credits were enough to give me the jitters. I remember an Armchair Thriller drama about a killer nun who had no face. That nearly finished me off Shock
