Anyone love the Expanse? I'm not a fan of Amazon but want to get Season 4 ASAP.
What I will say is read the books as well - hard sci-fi at its finest!

Dang it! Is there anyone on Mumsnet who's a hard sci-fi fan? No wonder people think I'm a big wierdo on here?

Really?! Or is this place so quiet you could dump a corpse here and noone would notice?

Absolutely loved it, we did season 4 in under a week. It's beautifully done, yes sometimes the effects are not so great but other times are breathtaking. I haven't read the books but I do know there are divergencies like when characters are introduced. I'm just looking forward to season 5 now!

JohnMcCainsDeathStare · 15/02/2020 10:31

Is Season 4 on DVD yet or do I have to watch it on Prime?
I love the characterization and the fact it does science so well.

I don't know, we've watched it all on Prime, sorry.

MyuMe · 15/02/2020 16:53

I've watched it all but tbh the slow pace of it is a bit frustrating

An entire series looking at one ring gate planet...come on

Ilovellamas · 16/02/2020 20:44

Watching it and loving it too, they have just finished filming season 5, so hopefully it’ll be out in December.

Not sure if season 4 is out on dvd, we watched it on prime, sorry.

Awrite · 16/02/2020 20:48

I think it's my all time favourite sci-fi programme.

Each season so different and yet all a glorious allegory of all that is wrong with humanity.

Robin2323 · 16/02/2020 21:43

Hubby loves it but I can't get in to it.

LittleLebowski · 18/02/2020 07:50

Definitely not a weirdo, kopeng mi! Smile Absolutely love The Expanse, best space-based sci-fi since Battlestar Galactica in my opinion. Love how it's not set too far in the future so the distinct cultures of Belters, Martians and climate change on Earth seem all realistic. If season 5 is out in December, that would be amazing as we devoured season 4 far too quickly. Like or loathe Amazon, I believe they saved it from cancellation after it was on Sy-fy? Great characters and plot layers, brilliant dialogue, very funny too.

JohnMcCainsDeathStare · 19/02/2020 08:16

I'm with you in thinking is the 2010's equivalent of BSG. And they do the science part so well I am prepared to suspend my disbelief when they practically can't - like that there aren't that many 2m tall actors and partial gravity cannot be replicated all the time.

I agree on the science bit of the fiction - I'm watching Picard too and while I have always loved Star Trek, it's far harder to suspend belief there, particulary with the different alien species. The Romulans just look like dark-haired versions of Legolas. I much preferred the alien molecule of The Expanse, the Ring etc. Ties in with Contact, which I always thought was brilliant science-fiction. The characters really make The Expanse though. I love Amos and Avasarala.

Starbuck8419 · 27/02/2020 16:19

Agreed. Amos and avasarala are the best as well as Bobbi.
I find Naomi excruciatingly painful.

Just started the first book and can’t believe how accurate the tv show is.

TenShortStories · 20/02/2021 01:43

I just finished binge watching all 5 seasons and searched on here for a thread - this is the only one that came up that had more than 3 posts in it!

Has anyone finished season 5 now?
