Looks like it to me.

Bluerussian · 09/02/2020 21:24

No, it was in his bag that he takes out on calls. They always have a very small amount of drugs on them for emergency.

incognitomum · 09/02/2020 21:31

Aw it's a really sad one. I'm watching on catch up.

Mammyloveswine · 09/02/2020 21:33

I hope not!

LIZS · 09/02/2020 21:34

Think he may have a drug issue. Why would he have a large bottle if pethidine in his bag.

Bluerussian · 09/02/2020 21:58

Because that's how it used to be! It wasn't full of tablets, probably only half a dozen. Nowadays they are in blister packs, then medicine bottles were the norm. GPs receive a lot of free samples from reps, they would decant some of those into a bottle. They always have a few things in their bag.

In next week’s preview, it looked as if he was sneaking something out of a cupboard. My goodness, so emotional this week! I love CTM!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 09/02/2020 22:15

I was surprised at him handing out pethidine like aspirin. I just hope that the Sister isn’t going to end up addicted.

katmandoo · 10/02/2020 00:05

😕 not sure but my mum who was a midwife carried pethidine IM in the 90's I remember having to take that back to the hospital when she died along with all the other drugs and nitrous oxide.

I got the impression it will be the Nun with the issue as there was the scene where she is in the drugs cupboard with packet all over the place

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 10/02/2020 07:15

Assuming that ibuprofen didn't exist in the 1960s? It seems a bit of a leap from aspirin/paracetamol to pethidine. Also think it very unlikely that a young nun would open up to a young male doctor that easily/quickly.

mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork · 10/02/2020 13:24

Ibuprofen first marked in UK in 1969. I can't remember hearing about it until much later though. I'm pretty sure we were all just taking aspirin and/or paracetamol in 60s and 70s.

mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork · 10/02/2020 13:24

*marketed

Gogolego · 10/02/2020 14:23

I thought the story line is leading more into the sister getting a pain killer addiction

longtompot · 10/02/2020 15:10

I remember being able to buy glass bottles of paracetamol from Boots and they would have a ball of cotton wool at the top. My ed bought some B vitamin recently, and was bemused by it having cotton wool at the top!

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 10/02/2020 15:16

I’ve sobbed proper ugly tears at that.
