I love a good lighthearted mystery but have run out of things to watch! Can anyone recommend programmes or films similar to:

Jonathan Creek
The Mallorca Files
Death in Paradise
Sherlock
etc

Thank you :)

Shakespeare and Hathaway- BBC iPlayer. It's so crap! I'm addicted!

The Aurora Teagarden Mysteries are not well acted, but strangely very hard to stop watching. On Prime, I think.

Puffinhead · 07/02/2020 14:35

Agatha Christie! Try the early Poirot short episodes, they’re closer to the books. The later episodes got a bit ridiculous- still easy to watch though.
Sherlock Holmes is good too - the Jeremy Brett series.
I loved Jonathan Creek (especially the early ones), shame there’s nothing else like it.

Puffinhead · 07/02/2020 14:36

Yes to Shakespeare and Hathaway, a bit daft but very watchable.

Iambloodystarving · 07/02/2020 14:38

Rosemary and Thyme.

Two women gardeners. Very easy watching.

HaudMaDug · 07/02/2020 14:53

Midsommer Murders and Vera are my easy watch faves
Only just discovered them last summer so I've got weeks of viewing still ahead as there are so many series to catch up on.

SometimesItRains · 07/02/2020 17:37

Miss Fisher murder mysteries (or something like that) is one of my faves and I like everything on your list.

thedevilinablackdress · 07/02/2020 17:44

Midsomer Murders. Old and new Barnaby are both great IMO

aroundtheworldyet · 08/02/2020 10:02

Morse
Frost
Hetty wainthrop

sluj · 08/02/2020 10:05

Agatha Raisin on Sky is great and fits the bill perfectly

iklboo · 08/02/2020 10:05

Yes to Father Brown. DS(14) loves it.

BestIsWest · 08/02/2020 10:08

Hamish Macbeth

aroundtheworldyet · 08/02/2020 10:40

Agatha raisin is great.

I was hoping someone would have mentioned something I haven’t seen. Sad

DarkDarkNight · 08/02/2020 19:27

Monk is absolutely fantastic. I also love a bit of Murder She Wrote though so my tastes definitely veer towards the slightly silly.

Oh and Father Dowling Mysteries (more of the same really).

stumbledin · 08/02/2020 23:48

Have to say I dont think some of the recommendations meet the criteria of light hearter.

Admittedly some of the more dated ones like Morse are probably unintentionally funny viewed now, but not what was intended. And I think Vera is meant to be a bit serious. Certainly compared to Agatha Raison.

Have you seen My Life is Murder. Australian with female lead. On Alibi??

AlCalavicci · 08/02/2020 23:53

Pie in the sky
Shakespeare & H as others have said

PrivateSpidey · 09/02/2020 00:01

Cadfael. Bloody brilliant. Derek Jacobi plays the sleuthing monk with a somewhat mysterious and worldly past, making a sort of odd couple detective team with Sean Pertwee as the deputy sheriff (good guy). It's set in the middle ages btw. It's on either alibi or drama channel catch up at the mo. The books are great too.

Love Midsomer (old Barnaby only though for me!!), New Tricks etc as well. Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries is also good as PP said.

Seetheprettysnowdrops · 09/02/2020 01:33

Father Brown on iplayer

Murders, it's true, but it is not heavy going

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/02/2020 22:01

Seen all those recommended :(

Love creek Shakespeare Agatha my life is murder

Easy watching

FrancesFlute · 09/02/2020 22:51

Yes the early Poirots - several on ITV player!

Davros · 09/02/2020 23:31

Maigret is being repeated. Very good but not light

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 10/02/2020 01:39

The Doctor Blake Mysteries are rather good.

Classy, light-hearted mystery stories, set in 1950s Australia, starring Craig McLachlan (Henry from 1980s Neighbours!)
