The Baby Chimp- Thurs 8pm

Is this the most inspiring programme on the T.V at the moment?
Thursday night B.B.C 2 at 8pm.

It is a cuteness overload of baby chimps that have sadly been orphaned when their mother’s are shot for meat and they are sold as pets.
An American vet and his wife went to Liberia to help other Chimps that had been abandoned on an island after being in a research facility, whilst staying there people brought them 2 baby chimps.
Now they have nearly 40!

Truly inspirational!

I love it. Its great Liberia is cracking down on the chimp meat & pet trade. Tho as they're drowning & not enough space with so many babies, I think they could make a start on the new place now & just get the nursery done (they've only raised some of the money needed) & have temporary pens for the older chimps til their separate place is done. 37 babies is a lot!

@CSIblonde
I hope they manage to get funding for their new facility.
I found it really sad that the older chimps were on the old research site, where all those other chimps had been tortured.

As my daughter said ..... bad juju.
I understand that they had nowhere else to house them, but it will have bad vibes there.

I hope they get the funding.Smile

I absolutely love it.
I cry at least once every episode.

@CheesePleaseLoueese
You sound like me! I cried at all the episodes too!
I wonder if there are more episodes as there was no preview for next week’s one!

I love it, but I am so worried what they are going to do when all the baby chimps grow up and they have so many full grown chimps to deal with.

When Mira died, I cried like a baby. Wasn't expecting it at all. I was crying with happiness when they rescued her and she was swinging about in her new enclosure so happy. Devastated for the carers.

On the webpage for the project, it says the BBC documentary is a 3-parter.

I am desperate for an update on little tiny baby chimp Gaia!! And the rest of them!

CheesePleaseLoueese · 24/01/2020 16:01

The website does not reference how much of the funding for the new sanctuary they have now managed to raise, but it does still reference the project as ongoing - so fingers crossed they are on track.

@LochJessMonster
It was so sad what happened to baby Mira after all she had been through.
@CheesePleaseLoueese
They need a million dollars to make the other facility and secure the island.
In yesterday’s episode she had raised £ 300,000.

It was a real shame they couldn’t put a way to donate at the end of each episode, I’m sure they would’ve raised a significant amount , if not the entire amount.

I’m sad it has ended, I would love updates. I also wonder what will happen to Johnny as he was older.

They can’t leave us hanging! 😢
