Shame the law doesn't allow the owners of these fighting dogs to be put down too.

Biglips · 30/08/2007 21:14

Its about "fighting Dogs"..

weebleswobble · 30/08/2007 21:16

Comforting though that if the owner of a suspected pit bull type it can still be kept if it's muzzled in public and on a lead

southeastastra · 30/08/2007 21:44

there are more and more pitbulls the 1991 act is stupid and pointless.

OP posts:
southeastastra · 30/08/2007 21:45

i remember the first time we ever went to ireland. we went from stranear, scotland, into belfast. no one ever checked anything.

drove into the republic time and again - we were staying in Armagh - never once checked.

ever.

got on a ferry. walked straight into mainland UK.

no checks.

i was completely stunned. being an American immigrant, my very first thought was, 'If someone wanted to bring something into the UK - guns, drugs, etc. - this would be the way to do it.'

4 weeks in jail was all the guy got.

for a girl's life.

NadineBaggott · 30/08/2007 21:48

listended about it on Jeremey Vine and like you south I am watching but wondering why.

It's quite gobsmacking really.

How the feck did that Irish footballer get away with it?

southeastastra · 30/08/2007 21:49

i don't like swearing on here but stupid thick fucking arseholes.

OP posts:
weebleswobble · 30/08/2007 21:50

NadineBaggott · 30/08/2007 21:50

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 30/08/2007 21:54

One of them said he did it purely for hte 'sport'.

Fuckers.

This Gonzalez bloke sure gets around.

Let's hope he gets extradicted to the US so he can do some real time in a lovely jail , not just some slap on the wrist.

southeastastra · 30/08/2007 22:01

that has to be one of the most depressing things i've seen for ages. apologies for my language on this thread. it will get worse

LadyTophamHatt · 30/08/2007 22:03

I only saw the last 10 minutes but that woman in the 4x4 atthe end, "hugging" that dog must be bloody mad.

I wouldn't hug a pitbull, and espiacally a fighting one if my life depended on it....

(is it repeated at all btw)

expatinscotland · 30/08/2007 22:05

If you want to get something into the UK, bring it into Ireland, cross the border into NI, and board any ferry as a foot passenger.

Voila, you're in mainland Britain!

I'm still stunned that those borders are completely unmanned.

southeastastra · 30/08/2007 22:06

that's a crazy situation expat i had no idea it was that easy

LadyTophamHat, I was wishing for that dog to turn on her. See how she feels about being on the receiving end.

I am a dog lover (when dh left and took the dog I miss the dog more!) But there is no need for this. Unfortunately the dogs need to be dealt with and the owners too. It like allowing someone to keep a loaded gun with them, each able to kill.

Those injuries on the child's leg were horrific, like the grandmother said it looked like a shark attack. And the clip at the start showing one attacking a pet dog as its owner frantically tried to get it away was awful. Sorry but these dogs cannot be allowed at all. The police who don't act should be sued when the inevitable happens.
