Well at least he's reading! Discovered he bought a soft porn novel on his kindle and was looking at girlie shots - lingerie, boobs out etc. We told him we were aware of it and would talk about it later, but what to say? I am a feminist and know how many of these young women are abused. I know sex is not as these books and pics will portray but I know it's natural to be inquisitive and want to see what it's all about. I don't want to shame him. What to say???

Ask yourself how you have allowed it to happen then take steps to prevent it happening again.

I believe as you have said that it's natural to be curious. He's a teen after all. I think the best thing to do is explain it to him as you have here re: the abuse of women in such positions, that sex isn't as it is portrayed in porn (soft or otherwise) etc.

I definitely wouldn't shame him, or even be upset with him. It would only lead to either more curiosity or him continuing to read /try to obtain such material in secret.

New kindle for Xmas and he worked out the parental control password!!

So he deliberately set out to crack the password? I would remove the kindle for that anyway.

Ffs @eveshopper calm down with the judgement? Don't blame the op! It's soft porn su probs would bypass the parental controls esp if it's lingerie etc?

He's 13 he'll be curious. A good time to discuss that actual pornography can be damaging and the dangers/realities behind the images.

Be honest with him. Yes he'll be mortified but actually a gentle, honest, open discussion is needed.

calm down with the judgement?

Not judgement, simple step to work out how to prevent him doing it again, that's all.

Don't blame the op!

I wasn't.

He deliberately worked out the password for parental control so could have seen anything.

It is normal but I would sit him down for an uncomfortable chat about porn vs reality and female sexual abuse

Well it's a step up from perving at the underwear section in the Freeman's catalogue I suppose 😂😂😂
