So, I'm another one of those indecisive spends more time flicking and deciding what to watch than watching people.. Grateful for suggestions!

I don't particularly have a favourite genre per se but I like series where I connect emotionally with the characters, their lives, their relationships and so it has to be well-scripted with believable characters.

One of my all-time favourite series was Breaking Bad and I was actually in mourning when I finished that Xmas Grin Older series I've felt similar about have been Buffy and Firefly. Also liked Ally McBeal in the day.

And more recently Line of Duty (but mainly series 2 and 3) and Fleabag (but to be honest, that was mainly series 2 and the Hot Priest - loved the chemistry. Crown Grin)

I also enjoyed Criminal but obviously too short to get emotionally invested. Also liked True Detective.

I'm currently watching Outlander and although it has met my criteria in part, I just can't get as invested as I thought I would in the Claire/Jamie relationship. Am about halfway through series 4 now and I'm getting a bit bored again.

I have tried but couldn't really get into:

You - watched the first few episodes but didn't really find the main character very believable!

Mindhunter - found it a bit dry.

The Good Place - bit silly but to be honest, comedy is not particularly a favourite!

Grey's Anatomy - really wanted to like this as real-life medical stuff interests me and have heard good things about it, but found most of the characters a bit two-dimensional and storylines far-fetched.

Suits - Was alright to start with but got a bit meh.

So, hit me Smile

Try The Marvellous Mrs Maisel, Offsprings or Atypical.
All have some comedy (and comedy isn't my thing either) but beautiful stories attached to them too. Were recommended to me and my first thoughts were I wouldn't like them as I am more a Mind hunter, Criminal type of person but loved all 3.

Try Dead to Me - I’ve just finished it and found it very good.

If you like breaking bad I think you will like sons of anarchy. I was hooked after about 2 episodes. The Crown too. Oh Gilmore girls, is a bit comedy but very easy to watch if you are in a tired mood and just want something easy to watch. Might be a nice gentle watch after a couple of sons of anarchy.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 03/01/2020 15:18

You haven't mentioned Homeland, if you've not watched that then I reckon you'd like it.

Unbelievable is also really good.

PaperDreamsHoney · 03/01/2020 15:46

I binge-watched Snatch whilst ill. I think the first season is better than the second, but it was still alright.

Lucifer (best to start with Season 1 on Amazon rather than Season 4 on Netflix)
Good Omens (on BBC any moment now)
Succession

Try Ozark. Just started watching and it’s really captured my attention.

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 03/01/2020 23:15

Wanderlust on Netflix. Unbelievably well observed and performed. Comedic drama about a stale marriage and the coupes attempt to revive it.
I've cried at it and been compelled to watch the next as soon as one is finished

Everyone has made great suggestions, you’re going to be busy for a while...

But if you want to emotionally connect with the characters, I’m loving Accused, on Amazon Prime.

They’re all stand alone episodes. Many heartbreaking, can’t watch more than one a day.

Modern Love on Amazon Prime is very good. True stories from NY Times made into individual little films. Really lovely but has made me obsessed with returning to NYC.

Moanranger · 04/01/2020 19:22

I recommend Dirty John on Netflix. Very compelling TRUE story of a middle aged woman (the lovely Connie Womack from Nashville) being stalked by an Internet date. The family dynamics (why she had difficulty breaking it off) and an amazing finale.

BloodyCats · 04/01/2020 19:24

It’s not a series but I watched Jayde Adams stand up special last night, it was so funny! On Amazon Prime.
