Anyone Know What This Show Is?

This is a question for older MNetters, as it's a series that was on in the late 70s, early 80s.

A friend of mine has been describing a sitcom he loved and he can't remember who was in it or what it was called - so it's all been a bit needle in a haystack as Google is no good for this.

He says it involved two women who were either divorced or widowed and who decided to set up home together as chums. They had both been crazy about a particular guy at university and bumped into him again recently.

He had spun them a yarn about working for MI5 or something like that, but when they bumped into him he was working in a greasy spoon cafe.

They took him home to live in their big house (not as a menage a trois or anything).

That's what he remembers, and he's driving me mad and asking everyone he knows, and asking me to ask everyone I know ... so I thought, why not ask the MN Collective.

Man About the House?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 23/12/2019 14:05

That sounds so familiar...

MuttsNutts, no not Man About The House. I think these women must have been older as they were either widowed or divorced.

The women lived in a big detached house, and he was in a bedsit before they asked him to move in with them.

Could it be 'Shelley'?

Laterthanyouthink I'll ask and report back!

American programme? There was one called Kate and Allie but I don’t remember a man being involved

QueenieMum · 24/12/2019 11:03

Only ones I can think of are the Liver Birds and Robin's Nest.

diddl · 24/12/2019 16:17

I thought of Robin's Nest-he has his own cafe in that doesn't he?

But the women aren't older, widowed or divorced, are they?

Nor in Liver Birds!

Tighnabruaich · 24/12/2019 16:18

No to these ones too. I'm beginning to think he's imagined it. I'm from the same era, and it rings no bells with me at all.

I wonder if he's mixing up a couple of shows?

In Robin's Nest he's married to a character played by Tessa Wyatt & in Man about the House lives with characters played by Sally Thomsett & Paula Wilcox.

If he knew a character of actor name that would help!

There's Goodbye Mr Kent with Richard Briers lodging with divorced Hannah Gordon & her daughter.

FOUND IT. Call off the search. It’s called Double First and starred Michael Williams as the man.
