What are you looking forward to watching over Christmas?

So much of the movies etc on TV over Christmas, I've either seen in the cinema or are out already on Netflix - even the 'Network Premieres'. And a lot of the TV programs are either repeats or "Christmas Specials" for things I don't watch anyway.

But there are a few things I'm looking forward. The Gavin and Stacy Christmas Special (yeah, I know … having just slagged off Christmas Specials!) Xmas Smile
Also, A Christmas Carol starting Dec 22nd, with Guy Pearce from the people who made Taboo and Peaky Blinders looks very interesting. It's a story that's been done to death, but am really hoping this will be good. It looks quite dark Xmas Grin
And the Dracula series starting New Years day from the people who made Sherlock looks really promising - there's nothing like blood and gore to start off the New Year Grin

What are you looking forward to?!

GAVLAAAAARRRRRRRRRR!

So, Gavin and Stacey for me too, plus Eastenders Xmas Blush and Christmas Carol.

I haven't read the Christmas Radio Times yet Xmas Shock so there might be more.

ParkheadParadise · 18/12/2019 13:30

Gavin and Stacey
Coronation Street
Eastenders
Emmerdale
River City

DarlingNikita · 18/12/2019 14:29

Dracula, certainly, although I hope it's more like first-season Sherlock (surprising, quirky, delightful) and not the bloated, ego-fuelled monster it became later.

And the Strictly Christmas Special. Judge away Grin

I don't think the Xmas R Times is out yet (is it?), so I don't know about anything else.

EggysMom · 18/12/2019 18:05

Xmas R Times is out, I've already bought it and have highlighted what I want to watch Grin For us it's the new version of A Christmas Carol, the various ghost stories, and Dracula.

ladyflower23 · 18/12/2019 19:05

All tbe ones you said OP plus Strictly, the Miranda special, and a ghost story drama on channel 5.

LoonyLunaLoo · 18/12/2019 19:08

Gavin and Stacy.

Rockbird · 18/12/2019 19:09

Call the midwife. I don't watch anything else Xmas Grin

You know it's not an actual special, it's more a celebration with the cast? I wanted another actual episode!

HearMeSnore · 19/12/2019 11:01

Is there an Agatha Christie this year?

I don't know why I'm interested really because I've hated every one of the recent re-hashes. But I live in hope for a good one...

DarlingNikita · 19/12/2019 11:51

Thanks EggysMom. Found it in my newsagents this morning and can't wait to wield my highlighter pen Grin

The Mark Gatiss ghost story does look good, ladyflower23, with Peter Capaldi

fudgesmummy · 19/12/2019 15:21

Dracula, a Christmas carol and call the midwife for me 😁

Holymotherforkingshirtballs · 20/12/2019 20:47

The Small Hand. Love a ghost story at Christmas!

whitetoblerone · 20/12/2019 20:50

Gavin and Stacy! I have re watched all of the other series in preparation!

Also, I love Call The Midwife!

EmmiJay · 20/12/2019 21:14

The Hand that Rocked the Cradle. Yay! Haven't seen that in forever. Plus all the soaps.

Graphista · 21/12/2019 19:15

The hand that rocked the cradle - the film? With Rebecca de Mornay? I love that!

Been seriously disappointed with "normal tv" in recent times but I'll probably watch Gavin and Stacey,

Any recommendations for a good TV guide app?

ladyflower23 · 22/12/2019 09:13

@DarlingNikita the ghost story I was thinking of was The Small Hand. I didn't know about the Mark Gatiss/Capaldi thing. When is that on??

happystory · 22/12/2019 09:30

The Tiger who came to tea, just love that book. Read today that Judith Kerr wouldn't allow them to add pizza to the tea as too American!

DarlingNikita · 22/12/2019 10:28

lady, Xmas Eve, quite late I think.

Graphista · 23/12/2019 18:41

No app suggestions?

Rogue 1 and gremlins on today's things to watch for me

Graphista · 23/12/2019 19:15

Oh and Christmas uni challenge which is always interesting seeing the breadth of people who went to same unis

Graphista · 23/12/2019 23:01

Well...I WAS looking forward to watching gremlins but itv haven't made it available to watch online Sad

My Christmas is pretty much going to pot for a number of reasons - not just petty telly annoyances - so I've gone "fuck it" and bought die hard electronically to watch - only £4.99!

And it's a film I know and love and know I'll watch a lot

Still a bit annoyed about gremlins though

MotherHeggy · 23/12/2019 23:03

Nothing on that I fancy watching. Thank goodness for Amazon Prime!

Graphista · 23/12/2019 23:20

Yes tellys been pretty shite all year and not much better for Christmas!

I'm also thankful for prime - but sadly die hard isn't on it free at the moment.
