Excellent and very sad production. Glenda Jackson is superb.

I've recorded it (not watched yet). I LOVED the book! Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it was on TV tonight. Can't wait!!

Nannewnannew · 08/12/2019 22:20

Totally agree, absolutely superb acting by Glenda Jackson, so moving. Wish there were more dramas like this.

Powerplant · 08/12/2019 22:29

Stunning portrayal of someone with Alzheimer’s and great back story

YorkshirePud1 · 08/12/2019 22:30

That was absolutely brilliant. Amazing acting from Glenda Jackson - she had me in tears at one point.

frostyfingers · 08/12/2019 22:30

That was a really hard watch, my mum has dementia and there was so much in it that rang true. Glenda Jackson was outstanding.

Toddlerteaplease · 08/12/2019 22:31

I was a but confused about why no one told her earlier that Elizabeth was in hospital.

Orangelover · 08/12/2019 22:33

@Toddlerteaplease I assumed they had but she just didn't remember and they didn't reveal it to us.

sweetief · 08/12/2019 22:35

It was brilliant!

BuckingFrolics · 08/12/2019 22:35

The Bbc can make a good 'un when they put their mind to it. Brilliant and touching.

ineedaholidaynow · 08/12/2019 22:36

It was really good but a hard watch as my DF had dementia

ArsenicNLace · 08/12/2019 22:36

Like toddler said. It was spoilt for me with the plot holes. Why didn't anyone say, you know where Elizabeth is. She's in hospital'. (Apart from the fact obviously that it'd have been 85 mins shorter!).

Also if she knew what happened to her sister why didn't she say anything in the 70 years she'd been missing when she was compus mentus.

I assume the book made more sense.

GertrudeCB · 08/12/2019 22:37

Brilliant.

PiggyPlumPie · 08/12/2019 22:37

@Toddlerteaplease I questioned that when I read the book, but I concluded that it wouldn't be much of a book if there were post-it notes lying around saying that Elizabeth was in hospital.

Have recorded it so glad it's gone down well.

EmmiJay · 08/12/2019 22:40

It was so good. I think this is the second drama I've watched on the BBC about dementia. I can't remember the name but it stared Sheridan Smith (?).

Knittedfairies · 08/12/2019 22:40

A tour de force from Glenda Jackson.

7Days · 08/12/2019 22:43

It was very moving.
I thought the plot holes worked well. That must be like living with dementia. All of life has plot holes, in a way.
Also, it seemed to play out that Maud did have all the facts in a way about Sukey. It's just that her dementia jumbled up the facts, in this case it jumbled them up in a way that solved the mystery.

The book was really really good at the shifts in thought modes. The drama did a very good job too.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 08/12/2019 22:50

This is one of the best programs I've seen in a very long time, amazingly well done and heartbreaking in places.

Loved it 👏🏻

Cooroo · 08/12/2019 22:52

Devastating. I have occasional memory holes - only 60! - and found this very frightening because I can see how you would struggle to hold on to some sort of narrative as the gaps expand.
Stunning performance from Glenda Jackson. She's been much missed.

dalmatianmad · 08/12/2019 22:55

I finished reading the book this afternoon and was in two minds whether to watch it.
So glad I did, it was really well done and glenda Jackson played the part so well.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 08/12/2019 22:55

Toddler I think they had told Maud re Elizabeth being in hospital but she had repeatedly forgotten.

FlamingoAndJohn · 08/12/2019 22:57

I was a but confused about why no one told her earlier that Elizabeth was in hospital.

They had told her.

When the son comes in to say about the add in the paper he says ‘why haven’t you told her’ and they say that the have told her countless times.

It’s not a plot hole, it’s dementia.

Clawdy · 08/12/2019 22:59

So well acted, and as well as the excellent Glenda Jackson, I thought the teenage granddaughter was so believable. I assumed Maud had never known what happened to Sukey, but the piece of glass dome she found made her see what had taken place all those years ago, and she could visualise the murder scenario in her head.

Moonflower12 · 08/12/2019 23:00

So had Frank murdered Suki? The Ddog wanted to go out at the bit when the police were interviewing Maude.

Hugsgalore · 08/12/2019 23:01

Absolutely fantastic. Very moving and very sad. Loved the back story and that she got her closure before she completely lost her mind. Tv at its best for sure.

Toddlerteaplease · 08/12/2019 23:06

I thought that the son had murdered Elizabeth. I think I misunderstood the whole story.
