I’m new to this site but wanted to ask, aside from the two filmed versions of this show, were important scenes deliberately deleted from the English/American version? I ask because I live in the US and discovered this series after watching the complete series of Midsomer Murders. I searched for background on Gwen Thomas and came across this site where I read the DCI Matthias/Gwen Thomas backstory. This was not included in the version released on Netflix.

As far as I remember the back story only came out in bits and pieces. So when it first starts all you know is things haven't gone well for the DCI and he doesn't seem to want to be in Wales, and the local police aren't that keen to have him.

I've found a link to the BBC web site that shows all episodes every made.

Maybe you can work out from that whether the series on Netflix was somehow edited.

(I think they list the series more than once as each episode was filmed in Welsh and then again in English)

I think the Matthias vibe is very different between the English and Welsh versions.

I'd watch the Welsh-with-subtitles version if possible.

And yes, it's been filmed twice, in Welsh as Y Gwyll and as Hinterland in English.

Imho it doesn't work in English.
