It's not quite time to don your woolly jumpers or stoke up your log fires for the winter - still some tennis to be played this season!

An exciting, mathematically challenging WTFs continues, new Davis Cup soon, etc...

Is he 38?? Who knew ?

What is he rifling through his bag for ?

Raahh · 16/11/2019 16:04

That banner was wrong .

On the 8th day ,God created Madchester. Not Federer.

I had this on a t-shirt. Grin. Ahh, the joy of being a student.

JaneJeffer · 16/11/2019 16:05

Was it an Irish flag? Fecking disgrace!

Raahh · 16/11/2019 16:08

This is very exciting.

I don't really mind who wins the tournament, once Fed is out.
But I'd like it to be Dom.

Raahh · 16/11/2019 16:15

COME ON STEF!!

Raahh · 16/11/2019 16:17

YESSSS

JaneJeffer · 16/11/2019 16:17

Yay!

JaneJeffer · 16/11/2019 16:18

It's lovely to see the way he's been playing here without any angry outbursts.

Raahh · 16/11/2019 16:20

It was a great match from his side- he defintely won it in style.

viques · 16/11/2019 16:22

I love Federer, think he is the most elegant, sportsmanlike(though he could have signed a few autographs on the way out!) lovely player in the world, but have to say Tsitsipas is an amazing young player who is so exciting to watch. The match yesterday with Nadal was nail biting. Hope he is as good on grass as he is on clay and indoors. really interesting that the final tomorrow won't have any of the guys who have dominated the game for the last few years. Perhaps it is the dawning of a new age.

Raahh · 16/11/2019 16:23

Why is she asking him about Roger?

It's his moment, not Fed's Angry.

Raahh · 16/11/2019 16:26

I am looking forward to the match later, the way Thiem was playing earlier in the week, was great.

I hope he isn't still under the weather.
It's great for Sascha after the year he has had, that he has got back to this stage.

So, it's all to play for.

JaneJeffer · 16/11/2019 16:28

It's hard to tell viques. The next gen have been very up and down.

Raahh · 16/11/2019 16:29

Jane well, quite- Zverev won last year, and it was meant to be the start of big things.

And it all went south for a while.

JaneJeffer · 16/11/2019 16:31

I don't mind who wins really. I would be happy for any of them but it would be lovely for Sascha after all the problems he's had.

PrivateSpidey · 16/11/2019 16:45

I think Stef will be good on grass eventually - his net play is pretty good and he's been playing a bit of doubles so I reckon that will just get better.

He played brilliantly today. Tomorrow should be good. I like Sacha but I think Thiem v Tsitsipas have been the two best players here (sorry Dom if this jinxes you for later) and that would be a great final. But I don't mind either way.

Raahh · 16/11/2019 16:51

It's nice not to mind. Makes a change Grin. I like all 3, so I won't be too unhappy who wins.

So long as it doesn't jinx them for next year!

viques · 16/11/2019 16:51

JaneJeffer, I just feel that the top guys have between them had so many injury problems that I think there must be a point when their bodies do shout out enough, retire with dignity. Mind you Andy seems to be climbing back up the career ladder again, so perhaps I am writing them off too ear

I first got interested in tennis when the young guns were McEnroe,Agassi, Lendl, Becker, Nastase, Connors et al, then it was Sampras,Sampras,Sampras Grin for what seemed like for ever.

I suppose the young players have been waiting in the wings for signs of weakness, and they seem to be seizing the moment now, but more importantly there seems to be a strong enough and large enough cohort of them to make an impact.

I only wish the same would happen in the women's game, a strong cohort who develop over a number of years rather than having to get used to a new set of wunderkids every season.

magimedi · 16/11/2019 17:01

Don't care who wins the second semi but I sure want Tits to win tomorrow.

He is amazing (swoons!).

Raahh · 16/11/2019 17:03

magi calm yourself Grin

JaneJeffer · 16/11/2019 17:03

You're the same era as me then Grin Sampras did my head in.

Yes they obviously can't last forever but it's giving the youngsters a chance to get their act together.

The women's does chop and change a lot but there's a few who are consistently good.

JaneJeffer · 16/11/2019 17:04

magi Grin

PrivateSpidey · 16/11/2019 17:05

Sampras,Sampras,Sampras
Grin
Yes it was hard going back then!! Not exactly the most exciting.

I think Thiem is the most likely to be the next new Slam winner on the men's side, but you never know. There has to be a gap between the old guard retiring and the new guys becoming more consistent, and I think a few slams could be sneaked around then. Just depends when that is.

Still hoping Delpo will nick another one before he retires...

OP posts:
Raahh · 16/11/2019 17:07

Spidey I would love Delpo to win something big, too. At the moment I think I would be happy for him back and healthy.

PrivateSpidey · 16/11/2019 17:09

Yes - he'd better concentrate on that first! And none of this golf business!!
