Rich Kids Go Skint

Apologies, I couldn't see a thread for this but please could somebody provide the link if there is.

Did anyone watch the episode tonight with Devon and the family from Lincoln? The most awkward dynamic I felt Confused. The rich kid was way out of touch compared to the others that have been on the show and didn't seem to have much in the way of social skills or charisma. And why on earth would you imply or question that a family who can't afford organic chicken don't care about the welfare of the animal or the environment - when she herself is the personification of inflated consumerism

The family dad seemed ok but felt the mum came across as quite resentful, getting upset on a few occasions when Devon talked about her life.

Did anyone notice that the toy train purchased at the charity shop, apparently for Xmas, was being played with by the children when Devon was babysitting? A sign that the producers ask the participants to exploit on certain emotive scenarios for effect?

I didn’t watch that one but I watched the one with the single mum Amy and my heart went out to her. She was so gracious especially when the rich kid Angelina shared Caviar and crackers with her when she doesn’t even have breakfast or lunch just tea. Sooo sad and really made me think about my own spending habits even though I am not frivolous

I have just watched this episode and when it came to looking in the freezer for meat for tea The Mam said they only had pork or chicken to choose from but there on the shelf was bloody rib eye steak. In fact there were a few pre packs of steak. So a few porkies being told in that episode.

This show is totally fabricated.

I really don’t get this show (even though I watch it!). Generally the rich kids are rich because of their parents. They are born into wealth and if they do work it is only because their parents are able to fund their businesses.

The poor family are generally on benefits and had children young/have a few children.

I am generalising of course but that is the majority of episodes.

The rich kids probably dont give a second thought to the poor family once they go home so what is the point? The poor family are often envious of what the rich kids have and can be quite rude about it. What do they gain from having it rubbed in their faces that their guest has 9 bathrooms and they struggle with one?

Why not change the format and instead of the rich kid, have someone who has made a life for themselves who can teach/inspire the poorer family and their kids. They dont need to be millionaires, just someone to proove that you can make a good life for yourself.

The show is completely fabricated I was watching one Episode where the family lived in Bolton in a housing association house I also live in Bolton in a housing association house so know roughly what they would be paying in rent,, they made out they were living entirely off the Dad,s minimum wage job ,to pay for everything ,no mention of tax credits which they would have been entitled too or housing benefit which they have been entitled to some or child benefit ,if they are going to make programs like that at least tell.the truth .

This show is aimed at making one criticise the rich kids for living off mum and dad but in my view the poor families are exactly the same, willing to live off someone else (the government) apart from the ones who do actually work. They are the same, it’s just different scales.

Just watching the first episode and agree is absolutely a set up

Fanciedachange1 completely agree should be about what you can achieve not what you are from being born rich.

And who does their weekly family shop for £40 at the local shop!

CurlsandCurves · 13/08/2020 21:21

@Ontheboardwalk I know! Every time they send these kids to the overpriced corner shop and expect them to do the weekly shop for a tenner!

Did anyone watch rich kids go homeless? That was a good series. Every single one felt that the homeless were simply lazy and didn’t try hard enough to get off the streets. Oh how their eyes were opened!
