Sophisticated American teenagers

I grew up, like many, loving American teen TV. From the likes of Saved by the Bell through to the later drama llamas OC, 90210, Gossip Girl etc.

I'm just watching Dawson's Creek (as a fully fledged 30-something) they're soooo complex, and deep. Over analysing their first kiss, obsessed with sex, boys and girls just going up to each other and having flirty banter and then deep meaningful monologues about their relationship.

Was anyone else's first encounter with the opposite sex a wet snog at a school disco or barn dance? Terrified to talk to the person they fancied, the beginnings of a relationship forming through MSN messenger with as little contact as possible?! Can't just be me surely Grin

Yes! I thought secondary school would be a fun / romance / party fuelled approximation of Saved By The Bell.

The reality was a bit of a disappointment- particularly as I went to a girls’ grammar.

They're just so confident, asking each other out, I'd have been terrified to go on a "date"! Obviously the wardrobes as well....wow!

I guess it's made me realise how obvious it is that it's adults writing about teen dramas!

(I appreciate not all teenagers were anxious messes like I was ha!)
