What can I watch on iplayer/Netflix/prime thats light hearted?!
I’ve just finished motherland and found that funny, can’t find series one anywhere though. Also liked a program on the iplayer that was about a woman that had been in prison for killing her friend when they were teenagers, it was a comedy, can’t remember what it was called though.
Recommendations appreciated! Grin

Crazy ex girlfriend on Netflix

Oh and if you have Amazon Prime then One Mississippi with Tig Notaro was good.

I’m after non American preferably, I just don’t find American ‘comedies’ that funny Confused

Depends what it is. Some of the formulaic stuff is a bit dire. There are some quite clever quirky stuff though. As well as some Uk stuff, some of above is skandi (Rita, Bonus Family) and some Aussie (Offspring, the letdown) and Working Moms is Canadian and very similar in style to some of the UK stuff I think. I'm not really into the canned laughter type stuff. Probably least like what you want would be Grace and Frankie but i'd give the rest a whirl. There are some things I haven't fancied based on the blurb or images but have enjoyed once I've watched and some stuff that people have really promoted that I've hated.

I'd didn't include anything too heavy on the list.

What other stuff have you watched and enjoyed?

PinkDaydreams · 16/10/2019 20:33

I’ll start going through your list Smile I’ve tried to watch Better Things a few months back but couldn’t get into it.
To be honest I only really watch the soaps in the evening then a drama if there’s one on. Currently watching bake off but that’ll finish soon.
Yes that’s why I said not American, I can’t stand the canned laughter! Really frustrates me, glad someone else feel the same!

My pick of the list for you to try would be Rita and Offspring. neither are comedy as such but they are gentle comedic drama. Rita is subtitled if you are okay with that. There is also a spin off called Hjordis which is worth a watch if liked Rita. Bonus Family is also subtitled and probably has a bit more humour in it.

All these series have very likable engaging characters and get you hooked.

Working Mom's is honestly a bit more interesting than the title makes it sound.

I've got to the point as I've got older that I don't have time to waste on things I don't enjoy so I give it a few episodes and if it doesn't grab me then i move on. I wont be upset if you don't like any of my suggestions :)

I also like bake off but I don't do soaps. DC used to do activities every evening so I stopped trying to watch anything on a regular basis. I then got into binge watching boxsets when I had the time. Now since DC are adult and drive and can take themselves to where they need to be, I have freedom to do what I want but don't want to go back to soaps.

If you liked Motherland how about Catastrophe? Also written by Sharon Horgan. Think all the series are on All4.
Also Fleabag on IPlayer. Not especially light-hearted but very funny and extremely well written!

the Idris Elba comedy is good
