There's this bit in Episode 7 I think it is that I don't understand

Jaq sends Ats to Manchester to sell drugs. He takes Stefan.

When they come back with a bag they are mugged.

They are then interrogated by Jaq and a man as to what happened.

When the boys leave Dushane comes downstairs and tells Jaq and the man not to let anyone know they were robbed.

When he is gone Jaq then reveals that it was the man who mugged them and the bag is just paper and no money.

So :

Who robbed who?

Have the Manchester people robbed them by sending the kids home with a bag of paper?

Have Jaq/man set up Dushane and robbed him on the sly ?

It didn't really make sense to me

I took it as they set Ats up. He thinks he lost the money, so now he owes them. It's a bit ott and elaborate (and probably completely wrong!)

But why does Dushane believe they were robbed, and what happened to the product ?

There never was a product. They sent the kids to Manchester with presumably an empty bag - or rather, bag of paper - and the people in Manchester scared the shit out of them deliberately. And gave them a bag of paper to bring back.

They were then mugged and had to admit it to Jaq. But the whole thing was a set up simply to get Jamie’s kid brother thinking he now owes Dushane. It was only ever about getting to Jamie and manipulating those close to him into a position of deference.

It was also kind of about getting the little mate on side as well but ultimately, kids like him are two a penny and they can recruit any number of soldiers to run their drugs for them. What was the end game in the set up was getting to Jamie’s bother.

Hope that clears it up!

Remember - they told the kids to not even look in the bag on their WAY to Manchester. Then they were told in Manchester not to look in the bag on their way back.

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 19/10/2019 21:53

Actually - scratch that. It WAS about getting to Jamie but ultimately the little kid mate of Jamie’s brother feeling like he owed them gave them leverage to make him take the bag of drugs/guns into Jamie’s flat in the end set up.

So either way - maybe they thought the set up would give them mileage with Jamie’s brother’s mate, and when Jamie’s brother ended up going with him to Manchester - Dushane thought Bingo! I’ve got him in my pocket now too.

But it doesn't explain that the Jamaican guy Sugar? Then knew Dushane had been robbed even though he wasn't

(The twist at the end was terrific wasn't it ?)

Ats really needed the money too 😭

Sorry what was the bit about Sugar?

It was so good, wasn’t it! Ultimately Dushane respected Jamie’s leadership and wanted him in side but needed to get through the wall of angry youth to reach him with logic. Because Jamie was actually quite cool headed. Modi was bloody mental!

It was interesting to see how they set it up in 2011 to still be like there was a hierarchy of respect - you respected the elders, even within gangs. Like how Dushane obviously had respect for Leon back in season 1 even though Leon asking him to stay away from Rennel threatened his authority.

But in 2019, it’s just all brutality - zero tolerance, zero fucks, brutal fights and horrendous use of weapons.

It was really interestingly handled.

100PercentThatBitch · 19/10/2019 22:13

No I mean the bit right at the end, I myself didn't notice until they did a special YouTube video on it 👀

Sugar seemed to think Dushane had been robbed, but how would he even know especially if an inside job

If a total inside job why is Dushane telling them not to let it get out they've been robbed if everyone knows they weren't

I thought Dushane said not to let it out because he was doing it behind Sully's back

Ringonrighthand · 19/10/2019 22:18

The ending, in the police station.. amazing!!

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 19/10/2019 22:19

Oooh do you have a link to the YT video?

I thought Sugar thought Dushane wasn’t going to be able to sell as much and that’s why he was putting pressure on him. So when Dushane told his cousin to hide...and he hid in “man’s own yard”, he got killed :(

But even so, even if it was a set up and they never had their drugs stolen but just made it appear so - they wouldn’t want the fake truth getting out because that would make Sugar angry anyway.
