All the series of Waterloo Road are now available on BBC iplayer.
I missed the first few series so it will be good to catch up.
I just watched episode one of series one and enjoyed it although it does show its age - teachers smoking in pubs, the mobile phones they’re using, even the police uniforms.
Some well known faces in it including Jill Halfpenny and Denise Welch.
I’ve forgotten a lot of the storylines apart from the farcical removal of the entire school to Scotland but I do remember how the lovely Tom met his demise and want to warn him to be more careful!

I am watching this, halfway through season 2 and still can not warm to Miss Campbell at all!! Really don't like her character, she's hard work. Other than that, I am enjoying watching it, I was a teenager when it first came out so can relate to the pupils with the phones and fashions! Quite funny really.

Papergirl1968 · 24/10/2019 09:54

I’m on series two now.
Really enjoying it although I’ve just spotted a major spoiler on another thread!

I'm watching too and now on series 3 and enjoying it although just seen the spoiler above and disappointed to know Tom dies too Shock

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 24/10/2019 23:31

Tom and Izzy were so horrible to Lorna - totally selfish and self-involved.

falgelednl · 24/10/2019 23:40

I’ve been watching this too. I stumbled upon it a few weeks ago and thought it was a lot older than it actually is.
I don’t like Denise Welch’s character but then, I didn’t when I watched it the first time round.
I agree though - I just want to shout at them all to take more care so they don’t get pregnant/die etc!

cricketmum84 · 24/10/2019 23:52

Oh definitely am going to have to start watching from the beginning again :)

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 02/11/2019 10:36

I'm halfway through season 3 now (watching for the first time) - really miss Kim & Trenneman. They were the only decent teachers & now it just seems a complete joke.

Does it get better or should I just give up?

Has it finished forever or are they still making more series?

Papergirl1968 · 02/11/2019 11:21

I don’t think they’re doing any more series. I’m coming to the end of series two. Missed the first few series when they were originally on.

S1 E1

Omg Tom Clarkson's hair 😂😂

Candlebarbara · 09/11/2019 16:06

I’ve been binge watching this, didn’t see it first time round.

I do enjoy it, but it’s so unrealistic. I couldn’t see why Tom gets so involved, and lives with Chlo and her sister.. he was in a relationship with their mum for about a month, then ends up living in their house acting as their father for years, bringing other women back to their house..!

Also all the the hugging and constant arms round shoulders at school seems a bit OTT.

Papergirl1968 · 10/11/2019 13:53

Oh no, I have a soft spot for the small but perfectly formed Tom!

Gosh I had forgotten what an awful headteacher Jason Merrels was in S1!!!

Papergirl1968 · 15/11/2019 18:36

He was a lovable rogue!
Really can’t take to Rachel in s3 although clearly her bark is worse than her bite.

Martin Platt from Corrie has just popped up as a parent!

SavoyCabbage · 16/11/2019 19:58

I didn’t watch any of it the first time. I am enjoying seeing all the actors from other things turning up.

I think Tom would gave been close to the girls as he had been close friends with Izzy since university.

Papergirl1968 · 16/11/2019 20:08

Ha, just remembered, the actress who plays the head, Eva Pope, isn’t it? She was in Corrie too.

Where did Mika and Brett go on season 4? There was the fire at the end of season 3 and so far in season 4, they've not been mentioned. Unless I've missed it but would have thought they'd have talked about their a level results and what happened to them afterwards??

cricketmum84 · 17/11/2019 00:00

Sorry @Papergirl1968 but he was awful. First time I watched it when I was younger and probably more impressionable I thought he was a bit of a loveable rogue. But watching again (older and wiser or so I tell myself) he just comes across as a bad tempered perve who needs to stop shagging every woman he meets and remember he is a headteacher and not a brickie shouting and swearing at the apprentice 😂😂

(Runs away and hides)

Papergirl1968 · 17/11/2019 12:55

Oh he was a complete tart, and he made mistakes like bribing bright kids, but he was passionate about the school.
What I’m finding odd with Waterloo Road is that certain storylines or characters are focused on for one episode and then never referred to again.
It’s like every episode is written by and directed by a different person, so there’s no continuity.

I agree @Papergirl1968 - it annoys me that the boy who was killed when Donte was driving the car is never mentioned and his sister disappeared from the school. Did they even mention that she was leaving? Also, where has Lewis gone in season 4?

Amazing crop of British actors though!

itsgettingweird · 17/11/2019 13:11

Oh wow! Thanks for this.

I loved Waterloo road and will rewatch.

Reignite my teacher crush on Tom Grin

TheTruthAboutLove · 17/11/2019 16:34

Mika and Brett went off to university after S3, that’s why they didn’t return.

I’m near the end of S3, I did watch it first time around but I’ve started again and I’m really enjoying it. You can see what’s going to happen at the start of each episode though and the direction it’ll take. Like with Chlo and the exam papers.
I love it though and I’ll carry on watching! It does get much better in later series so stay with it.

The fashion and everything, it shows how much things have changed in ten years, I remember thinking dressing like that and having those phones made me cool. Imagine a teacher putting their arms on a pupil now, all hell would break loose!

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 17/11/2019 17:04

How do you know that though @TheTruthAboutLove? I assumed that's where they went but it's not mentioned at all. Even when Chlo wants the house sold, Mika isn't mentioned then to get her opinion on it! It's bugging me Grin

SavoyCabbage · 17/11/2019 17:13

He did mention it. Maybe when Rose was living next door and was evicted. He said the Kelly’s could stay overnight as Mika had moved out and gone to university and so they had room.

It might not have been then but it was mentioned at some point.

I agree the whole thing with the house/money was ridiculous.

TheTruthAboutLove · 17/11/2019 17:37

It reminds me of all those dramas where it’s an episode in a stand-alone mode, like an episode within an episode of that makes sense. It becomes especially obvious in later series.

In Waterloo Road you have a core of characters that the show revolves around and then other students as plot devices for a specific episode. Like the Lessons For Life group, and the one that focused on Ben being gay, he’d never stood out at all until that point.

I’m struggling to see how everyone goes crazy for Davina though, she is good looking but no different from most early 30’s women, unless she’s the youngest woman in the school teaching staff with Jasmine. Tom really annoys me though, he’s selfish and doesn’t listen to the girls at all.
