Just Discovered Peaky Blinders - how did I miss this?

Off work sick so thought I'd try an episode of Peaky Blinders to see what all the fuss is about. Well I've just finished series 1 and I'm hooked, totally hooked.

I don't normally like anything violet but I don't mind it at all.

I know I'm late to the Peaky Blinders fan club but I'm loving it.

You started at the first series though right? At least you've realised! Grin

@HennyPennyHorror yes started series 1 and just watched the first one of series 2. I'm still trying to work our who's who though.

For instance who is Polly? I thought she was Thomas' mother but apparently she's not. And does Grace come back?

Polly is his aunt

Louise0701 · 26/09/2019 16:07

Polly is his aunt. Re Grace; keep watching!
I love it.

Lavendersquare · 26/09/2019 16:59

What happened to Thomas' mother? We've seen his feckless father but I've not heard any mention of his mother.

His mum died. I don't think it's relevant to the plot though.

I only discovered it last year when I was pregnant and bored! Totally hooked now and nearly finished watching latest series on iplayer. Grin

I've tried twice but can't get past the first episode.

Woodman03 · 27/09/2019 08:03

Yep, I watched my my first episode 2 weeks ago, totally hooked from series 1 episode 1 as of Monday night I have seen them all. All though I was left a little dissatisfied with the final episode.

I watched all of last season on the recommendation of a PB-obsessive friend, but I’m afraid I couldn’t get past Cillian Murphy’s nasty haircut. My experience of the season was, Oh, look, there’s that haircut again, walking menacingly through a factory. Gosh, that haircut just shot yet another guy. Whoops, Luca Changretta had better watch out for that haircut.

(I think it should be all about Polly, who is by far the most interesting character.)

Doingtheboxerbeat · 27/09/2019 09:43

I have tried so many times but can't get past the 1st 2 episodes, what's wrong with me? I live near where it is based so it's not the accent, or the violence, I just can't and I seem to be the only one.

I saw it literally after S5 E2, which meant a huge binging session, to have sort of clue what was happening.

I'd like to think it's going to be like Call the Midwife, taking us to the next generation who have to go to war. I realised there's 6 episodes a series, so I think last weeks was the last one before S6.

The only question I have is why do Polly & Arthur sound Brummy or West Country, yet Tommy has a pretty generic voice.

I love Alfie Solomon's.

There's a super impressionist who covered all of them. His Alfie voice is so funny.
