Defending the Guilty - anyone watching?

I’m really enjoying it. I feel it should be compulsory viewing for people who want to be barristers - the trekking about with suitcases on trains and turning up to find there’s no witness / evidence etc! Usually it’s presented as much more glamourous.

I enjoyed it and thought the cast were great too. I have no law experience but was shocked when they said the wage was £12,000 !

I read Alex McBride's book and loved it. I was really looking forward to the TV series.

I am hugely disappointed. The actors seem to be mumbling and the scriptwriters have not managed to place the characters successfully, or explain who is doing what, and why.

I turned it off after fifteen minutes and won't be watching again, despite the fact that it's filmed in Hornsey Town Hall, which is close to where I was brought up. My father worked there too.

Sorry. Utterly irrelevant drivel. But I was unimpressed by Defending the Guilty.

Oh I didn't like it either!

Will Sharpe is very likeable but can't save it, Katherine Parkinson and Mark Bonnar are wasted, everyone else is meh..

I think 'irrelevant drivel' sums it up perfectly well, also childish and dull..

I've just binge watched it - I enjoyed it, but felt it could have been better done.

Tonnerre · 22/09/2019 01:38

Am I imagining it, or was the first episode a repeat? It seems incredibly familiar.

VolcanionSteamArtillery · 23/09/2019 07:42

I loved it, binged watched the lot yesterday . Thought it was absolutely fab. A bit subtle in its morality too which is really difficult to achieve

DH has always worked in chambers, so consequently I have known a lot of barristers, pupils, clerks etc. I remarked to him that I thought it was really clichéd, but he's giving it another go.

I though the Katherine Parkinson character wanting to be called 'mummy' was actually quite creepy.

ARoombaOfOnesOwn · 23/09/2019 19:39

@Tonnerre yes the first episode was a pilot, it went out last year I think.

Thanks, ARoom, I haven't seen anything mentioning that it was a pilot and I was beginning to wonder if I'd imagined it.

Lllot5 · 25/09/2019 19:41

I’m glad you asked that. I’d thought I’ve seen this before

Just came to see if there was a thread about this show. Just watched all episodes back to back and loved it. Love Will and found it very funny. Hope they make a second series.

Welshwabbit · 08/10/2019 15:02

Just found this thread after watching all episodes back to back. I didn't really get into the first 2 - 3 episodes, but really enjoyed the last two. I hope there's a series 2 as well.

Deecaff · 08/10/2019 15:40

Watched this and not convinced - the Mummy bit was the one bit I laughed at.
