Has anyone watched this?

It was quite sad to see how the poor girl was completely fobbed off.

Obviously I won’t list spoilers for you though but it’s worth watching if you enjoy crime programs.

This is based on a true story

There's a thread already in streamed TV. Yes it was excellent, highlighted how differently women from different backgrounds are treated when reporting rape.

lonelyonee · 15/09/2019 12:16

Yes I binge watched it as soon as I possibly could on Friday!
It was utterly fantastic, and I'm guessing is a representation of what happens a lot to victims of sexual assault. No wonder people don't report it 😔
Fantastically portrayed by the actors, and is a credit to Netflix imo.

Really good series, I ended up binging it all in one go which I regret now as have nothing to watch but it was very interesting.
Horrific how women are treated. Won’t say too much so again no spoilers - do watch it.

Ah didn’t see that one! Didn’t even know we had a streamed section!

Thanks

Loved it (obviously not the subject matter) it was absolutely disgraceful the treatment she had and the foster mother?? I was so angry.

I’m watching the first episode and I most want to turn it off because I’m so furious with those bloody male cops. They’re bullying her so badly! It’s horrific.

A hard watch but worth it. INcredible performances from the three main actors, I knew Toni Colette would be good, but Kaitlyn Dever(?) as Marie, and Merrit Weaver as Karen were absolutely amazing. ALso loved to see Dale Dicke, one of my favourite US actors.

It was also so refreshing to see so much powerful but restrained acting from such a diverse cast of US actors, not a face lift or perfect hairdo in sight!

I can only hope that US police procedures have moved on since 2008, much as UK police procedures relating to rape moved on after the Thames Valley police documentary was aired. Probably still a way to go though, as one of the lawyers comments, no one automatically disbelieves burglary victims, or denies that a car jacking has happened......

It is sometimes harrowing to watch, but persevere if you can.

I really enjoyed it, and learned from it. I typically don't watch or enjoy police/crime shows, but watched it for other reasons. It is very powerful, great acting, nice pacing, etc.

I had read the pulitzer article many years ago, and I think they did an amazing job.

There are lots of fantastic tv shows, but this is an important piece of work from a social perspective.

Can't believe it is so under the radar?
