Anyone watching this? I'm just onto the second episode but it's hard going, really upsetting. I can see exactly on what grounds the victim is going to be disbelieved - not injured enough, not upset enough, inconsistencies between the many times she was made to retell what happened. I think it's going to be a difficult watch, even though it's well made and acted.

This is one of the best things I have ever watched. I’m glad he was caught and will die in prison. I hope Marie and the other women were able to rebuild their lives.

The scariest thing about Peggy is that Marie actually considered her among the not-so-bad foster carers! Can you imagine how bad the others must have been, to consider someone who blames you for your own rape to be a friend still?! I have so much respect for good foster carers.

Only just found this series

The 1st episode, words fail me. I sobbed all the way through it.

Merritt Wever...an absolute masterclass in subtle acting. Toni Colette also brilliant. I also watched her in "Hereditary" the other night and her range is immense.

I don't know what else to say.

Just finished this. Very well done and thank goodness someone got to help Marie in the end. I felt so sad for her.

Made me think of the current news story about the girl in Cypress Sad

I loved this series and was completely hooked. I had never come across Merritt Wever before, but she was a treat. Such a natural actress. I love Toni Collette too, and how she is ageing beautifully but naturally.

Just finished this with Dh.
I had read the article a while ago so knew the story but it was still very well done.
What was interesting was when she said she didn't understand why he wasn't properly angry and realised that was the difference between me watching it and DH watching it. DH thought it was unfair and was glad they got the result and she got her proper ending but I was fucking furious because it should never have happened. Yet we know it did and we know it happens again and again.

Loved this series, though turned it off after the first 5 minutes at the first viewing. Watched the whole thing in one sitting in the end.

Link to the article for which there was a screenshot on the previous page. As the poster said, well worth reading.

A horrifying statistic in the ProPublica article:
In 2008, Marie’s case was one of four labeled unfounded by the Lynnwood police, according to statistics reported to the FBI. In the five years from 2008 to 2012, the department determined that 10 of 47 rapes reported to Lynnwood police were unfounded — 21.3 percent. That’s five times the national average of 4.3 percent for agencies covering similar-sized populations during that same period.
