Its a drama remake of the old film. Anyone watching? What do you'd think?

I can't help but wondering what each character would look like as humans. Love the sheer darkness of the draining essence idea too, seems like it belongs in an horror story tbh. I'm on the final episode :)

oooh im. on episode 4, tbh im glad i insisted on watching it first, it is imo much more graphic that the original, SPOILERS the scientists bit in episode 2 really disturbed me and theres a fair bit of disturbing imagery. i am a fan of the original, but i feel concerned that as its more graphic than the original, and being so heavily aimed towards kids who are possibly watching without parents?

Halfthesky5 · 03/09/2019 22:27

I completely agree. I can't believe that it was rated a PG, it should be at least a 12 I think. There were quite a few scenes that I found scary and unpleasantly graphic for a childrens show. The torture of the Scientist being one. The Gobblers were really creepy and there was a horrible scene involving them. Definitely much darker than the original.

staydazzling · 03/09/2019 22:32

yes, its a layering of disturbing imagery anyway, jim henson was a genius but understood restraint

Pinkbonbon · 04/09/2019 14:42

I'd say its definitely not a kids show but having said that, growing up in the 90s they were a lot less worried about scaring the bajeezuz out of us then and it never did me any harm.

OK in all fairness the groak from the moomins kept me awake nights for weeks xD but hey, that's just character building lol.

But I think 12+ for this one would have been the right rating tbf, it whole soul sucking thing ect... is pretty disturbing.

I don't think it's much darker than films and tv when I was a child, it's definitely better than watership down which I cant watch to this day. And the wolfy thing in neverending story. On Ep 7 and loving it so far.

We have just finished episode 4 (don’t want to binge watch and for it to end!) and really enjoying it. Yes it is a bit macabre but I think it’s still in the same vein as the original film (much treasured in this house 😊). I think if in doubt watch episode before your child and decide (you’ll know best as every child is different).

staydazzling · 05/09/2019 17:17

the end of episode 2 is very gruesome, also knowing the beginning of the film, im worried about the outcome of the series thats its gonna be like gelflings list.

staydazzling · 05/09/2019 17:26

im is on episode 8 now

Jodri · 05/09/2019 20:02

Yes staydazzling the end of episode 2 was a shock! I don’t think I’d have let my dds watch this until they were in double figures.
I’ve joined a dark crystal age of resistance Facebook group which has been fab so far and I’ve avoided spoilers but it’s all kicking off about one of the gelflings having two dads. I hadn’t noticed but thought it added to how well thought out the story has been and the attention to detail has been amazing. The guardian gave it a such a mediocre review, completely missing the point but most folk disagreed in the comments section and thought Age of Resistance has been awesome. It reminds me a bit (and i know I’m getting completely carried away here) of when I read Game of Thrones and how GRRM wrote scenes delving into completely minor and fleeting characters’ backstories; giving the fantasy world such depth and nuance.

Pinkbonbon · 13/09/2019 23:38

I felt the worst parts were the soul sucking tbh like the girl gelfling losing her 'essence' in ep one was far more chilling to me than the ep two stuff.

I wonder when season 2 will come out.

Is there going to be another one? I watched the whole series in two days and then went on to rewatch the film, as there was a lot I'd forgotten. I liked the little details like the series explaining how the Scientist's eye got like that (shudder) and the making of those big beetle things that are in the film. But there seems to still be a gap between the end of the series and the beginning of the film. I would love there to be more!

The ending was really sad and it was satisfyingly dark throughout.

staydazzling · 14/09/2019 18:41

the gruenak stuff was horrifying so disturbing.

Pinkbonbon · 14/09/2019 19:54

I assumed there would be another one seen as the baddies weren't technically fully vanquished.

PinkBonBon have you seen the film? The series was meant as a prequel to it, and if you watch the film, there's quite a lot of stuff that seems to have happened that wasn't explained by the end of the series. I've tried to find out online if a second series is planned and it seems that it is a possibility but they're waiting to see what kind of reception they get. I hope it's popular enough to warrant it.

Pinkbonbon · 14/09/2019 21:16

Not in many a year, ah didn't know it was a prequel, surely they'll have to make another one then. Usually It would say 'limited series' anyway if they were only planning to make one season.
