This is for those who've seen it and want to chat about it. None of my friends watch it and DP hates it and has been feigning interest when I talk about it Grin

What did people think? I bloody loved it!
Karla's Story was devastating. I wasn't expecting a happy ending by all means but the way it ended for her was awful. I was quite affected by it.

I wish they included more of Sophia's story. She was really filtered out in the last two seasons. This was a shame as she was one of the main characters in the beginning.

What happened to Maritza was sad too but I loved how Flaca turned into a helpful being.

The way the characters have developed is brilliant. For example Doggett was mean and scary at the start but we saw that she was vulnerable, insecure and very sweet by the end. It was a shock that she died. I just thought she was going to become a drug addict again.

Anyway, I'm going on a bit - I really need to talk to someone about this! Wink
Please add your thoughts.

Thanks

I agree Karla's ending was horrifying. As someone who works with asylum seekers and immigrants I think i really emphasised and found the whole immigration arc so frustrating on the characters behalf. Blanca's ending was so ironic though and lovely! Especially after how sad her s6 ending was.

I thought Doggetts death could've been done a bit more emotionally, like Pousseys. It was sad but we didn't see the event and just saw her body being zipped up the next ep. For such a big character they could've shown a bit more. The bit that got the heartstrings was seeing her certificate and realising she'd passed the exams afterall 😭

Also probably the only person really wanting Piper and Alex to go with the other people they were involved with and not each other!!

Hi drogon1 Grin, I'm with you re Piper and Alex, I didn't want them to end up together. I thought their relationship was toxic! But hey, they really must have loved each other after all!
I'm glad Blanca got her happy ending too! She was another person who became humanised as the series went on. I remember at the start everyone thought (and she let them believe) that she was mad, talking to the devil in the toilets but it was just Diablo on the phone! GrinHe was adorable.

My biggest annoyance from the ending was that Hellman became the new Gov! Out of all the CO's he really deserved his comeuppance. Maria really managed to redeem herself though which I liked after I wasn't so sure she was genuinely trying to change in season 6. After the way she was during the raid and beforehand you'd have thought she'd have ended up more in Daya's position 😲

Loved it! My dd loves it too (she's only 15. Bad bad parent!). However she has loved the series so much and it has turned her on to many women's issues asked questions about immigration. She said she loves it because it shows women at the their and their best at the same time.

Anyway, I'm glad Alex and Piper stayed together. I really didn't think it was going that way. However the shots building up of Piper moving away on her own, getting a job and her own little place was satisfying. I guess it really was true love for them and I'm glad about that.

Taystee was my favourite. I had high hopes for a dramatic release for her and when I didn't go that way I was heartbroken however I was touched and happy with the role she had begun to carve out for herself by the end. With Suzanne (another favourite) I believe she found some purpose in there in the end.

I found Flacka's story really upsetting when she was deported to Columbia when she never knew she wasn't an American citizen. How terrifying.

I loved the Adoption Agency scene at the end - "Were def getting a bit no older than 2".....cue older girl just walking up to them and demanding they love her!

I enjoyed how we discovered where all the other smaller characters were right at the end when Alex was transferred to Ohio. Some of them I had forgotten I didn't know where they were IYSWIM.

Brilliant show.

I agree about Sophia, however it was lovely to see her at the probation office briefly. She looked well so I'm happy with that!

Milicentbystander72 · 27/08/2019 09:05

Sorry for typos.

I think it made absolute sense that Hellman became the new Gov. It just shows that the cycle of corruption and abuse will continue. Tamika was great but she was fighting a losing battle.
It was a shame about Daya, she used to be so sweet. And, I know I shouldn't, but I love Aleida! Even though she is a terrible mother - you have nothing to worry about Milicent Wink
Taystee and Suzanne are the best!
