In soaps, why do they give so many storylines to the worst actors?

There is a mix of good, ok and bad actors in soaps. But the worst ones seem to get so many storylines/stay in the longest? I’m thinking Ste in Hollyoaks or David platt in Coronation street. Other people who are ok don’t seem to get all the big stuff? What do you think?

My only input is that I think many actors/actresses basically play themselves but with "lines", the success of which might be more prevalent in soaps?

I think the same about the Gemma Quad Babies in Corrie .
Totally ridiculous story in the Ante-natal ward, she was loud, shouty, kept hitting Chesney .
Seriously anyone behaving like that would be escorted by Security and the partner given DV advice .

You think Ste Hollyoaks and David Corrie are bad actors?! I’m surprised as imo then there are too many bad actors in Hollyoaks but I would say that it’s mainly the newer characters that are bad and the older ones are normal.

David Platt is a legend, yabvvu.

I love ste. I think he's a very good actor that's had some bloody hard storylines to be fair.
Hollyoaks is great, they bring in the worst actors ever and over time they seem to improve

I’ve never watched Hollyoaks but always thought David in Corrie is a good actor, says his lines like you would actually speak in RL not forced. Love scenes with the Platts and Tracy love and Mary.

Don't think the guy who plays Ste is a bad actor just annoys how no matter what he does he is forgiven and made reemable.. Ermm no!
It was when Freddie was in it. He was pretty bad but don't think they gave him anything to heavy.

I wonder when the actor that plays Max will be replaced, they usually replace the shitty acting kids when the character gets to about 12-13, just in time for the teenage years, the current actor isn’t good enough to carry out the current storyline where he’s selling his ADHD meds, so they’d better get a move on, I do like Max but he is crap at acting and it makes me wonder if his real life mother is just pushy and pushed for him to act, I just don’t understand why they’d pick he to play Max, you get some amazing child actors, maybe the crappy ones take less money?

Any storyline that involves Fizz,Sean or Maria in coronation street.

Fizz is a crap actor and I hate her character now, all she does is get at Tyrone.

David Platt is good! The bad ones in corrie are Alya, Maria, Ryan, Sean, Izzy, Asha, Max, probably more, but DP is ace!

I think Whitney in Eastenders is terrible!

David Platt is brilliant, love the way he delivers one liners, one of the best characters in Corrie.

DO and Evelyn are my fave Corrie characters, Maureen Lipman is brilliant and really suits this role.
