I wish it was starting tomorrow and not next week. Im so excited. Although it would be much better if PH wasn't on it.

PinkDaydreams · 19/08/2019 18:16

I finally got DH into it last year, we made a night out of it watching it and eating yummy cakes ourselves! Can’t wait to do the same again 😋

Checking in 🍰.

22Giraffes · 19/08/2019 22:28

Looking forward to thisCake I absolutely love Noel and Sandy together!

Starksforthewin · 20/08/2019 03:31

Enjoy this so much more now that we don't have to watch Mel and Sue.

Sandi and Noel are a massive upgrade.

Wish Paul Hollywood would bugger off.

PinkDaydreams · 20/08/2019 08:10

If you could swap Paul Hollywood for someone else, who do you think would be the perfect replacement?!

I just saw that - I don't like that they're almost all so young, where's the age variety?

PinkDaydreams · 20/08/2019 10:18

I thought the same, it says there’s seven in their 20’s.

Placemarking as I always get lost if not Grin

DeepfriedPizza · 20/08/2019 10:20

Can't wait for this. We usually buy a treat specific to the "week" so a wee pastry for pastry week etc.

hoarderadvice · 20/08/2019 11:05

I really don't like the young lineup of contestants. It's the reason I stopped watching Big Brother- the older people were often more interesting and brought something different to the show.

I would love to see Paul Hollywood booted out and replaced by Nigella or Delia Smith. How amazing would that be!

westisbest1982 · 20/08/2019 18:47

I'm also not keen on the majority of contestants being in their 20s. I think Channel 4 have looked at the demographics of viewers and concluded that they need to get more younger people watching.

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 20/08/2019 21:40

I said the exact same thing to my Dd today. I think they've made a big mistake in making them all young hope they're not all going to be shallow airheads like on love island

Starksforthewin · 20/08/2019 21:55

Absolutely bloody typical.

Take a successful tv show and twist it to suit a particular agenda.

Why don't they get the unique nature of Bake Off? It was gently competitive, we were able to marvel at the skills of the bakers and get to know them. Age and experience paired with youth and enthusiasm.

Now the bakers are all bloody 'woke' , in their 20s, and selected to fit an agenda. It infuriates me. I loved the older contestants, who had been baking for years, mixed with the young ones who were just getting into it.
Do not tell me that this 'cast' is made up of the best bakers in the country or that there was a skill led selection process.

It also pisses me off when the challenges are ridiculous and move far beyond what home bakers could aim to emulate. Remember last year's final when they had to cook on a bloody hot stone or something outside? 🙄

There are SO few shows that can be easily cross generational and engage the whole family, why are they messing with a well tried format in this way.

Apparently one of the categories this year is going to be 'festivals'? Seriously?

The bakers are so carefully curated across colour, sex, sexuality etc. Why have older people been culled from this year?
I loved watching older women like Nancy, with her years and years of knowledge and even last year, the older chap who had lost his wife and the two fathers.

Cross, I am.

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 20/08/2019 22:31

Oh dear God, because we all know that the muddy revellers at Glastonbury, Reading etc like nothing more than knocking up a Bakewell tart in their tent 🙄

Apparently the younger ages are due to there being significantly more application from 20 somethings due to them having grown up with GBBO (10 years old!!)

I’m sceptical personally - I like the older contestants with their handy tips and (often) focus on substance over style.

PinkDaydreams · 27/08/2019 07:32

Tonight’s the night!! 🍰
