I think her deal will be to deliver Fred so she has immunity and can then reunite with Nicole

But she has to get past June's husband though and he loathes her

YobaOljazUwaque · 18/08/2019 22:20

@boredboredboredboredbored Was Serena in on Fred's arrest do you think?

I think she was. And I think the "moment of intimacy" with Fred, inviting him to pop over from his twin to hers, was her 'pity'/'farewell' gesture to him.

But I think the driving thing earlier doesn't fit - if she knew she was about to escape to Canada (and would be free to drive, read etc) why would she risk her image as perfect Gilead wife?

BrienneofTarthILoveYou · 18/08/2019 22:22

@Roussette but June would be happy for Serena to have Nicole so I think her husband will let Nicole go or at least have some form of access to her.

MazDazzle · 18/08/2019 22:23

Fred alluded to his lack of fertility in this episode. Maybe Serena will have the possibility of a child of her own in Canada. I think we established in an earlier thread that the gun wound she received in a flashback didn't necessarily affect her fertility.

BesselVanDerKolk · 18/08/2019 22:23

Did anyone notice when she reached across the bed to Fred she had all her fingers?!

BrienneofTarthILoveYou · 18/08/2019 22:24

Didn't notice that @BesselVanDerKolk

Roussette · 18/08/2019 22:24

Yes Brienne I can imagine Serena as some sort of Auntie figure (not like an Aunt in Gilead) but will Serena be happy with that I wonder

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 18/08/2019 22:25

'It can't be the norm for Martha's to yell 'Housekeeping!' and stroll in with a keycard.'

I expect they use this tactic all the time to interrupt commanders who are going a bit too far with the women.

BesselVanDerKolk · 18/08/2019 22:25

It was her left hand (had her wedding ring on) and I'm sure that's the hand she lost a finger from

Roussette · 18/08/2019 22:25

We only saw one hand didn't we Bessel? I thought it was just her undamaged hand

MazDazzle · 18/08/2019 22:27

I noticed that her pinky was severed and thought she was making a show of it to Fred. It was quite dark and blurry though.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 18/08/2019 22:27

Her wedding ring hand is definitely the missing finger hand - I noticed last episode.

BesselVanDerKolk · 18/08/2019 22:28

Ahhh ok! Don't mind me then! As you were!

StayAChild · 18/08/2019 22:29

That was a fantastic episode. The horrific bedroom scene was necessary; we needed to see him finished off. I wanted June to give him another blow to the head to make sure he was well and truly dead. Shock

The music has played such an important part for me, very skilful choices.

Applesandpears23 · 18/08/2019 22:31

Wow! What an episode. Glad to see Serena isn’t stupid after all. She really sorted out Fred! The way he tries to protect her and fails to realise she betrayed him is quite sweet!

hungryhippie · 18/08/2019 22:32

I was definitely watching through my fingers in the bedroom scene, but it was necessary I think.
So was Fred arrested by Americans or Canadians? Those military people had the American flag on their uniform didn't they?

boredboredboredboredbored · 18/08/2019 22:34

I'm going to have to watch it again tomorrow to take it all in. I was only half watching as all
of the other episodes have been so drab I wasn't expecting that. Utterly brilliant and I too thought the music was amazing.

They also used Kate Bush's this woman's work when they pretended they were going to hang the Handmaids i thought it was utterly haunting.

which1 · 18/08/2019 22:35

I would have thought there would be some kind of 'you are crossing the Canadian border' kind of signage on the road...

Nothingcomesforfree · 18/08/2019 22:35

Serena was totally in on it. I think she deeply regrets her part in Gilead. That last bit of intimacy with Fred was regret for how they could have been if they hadn’t become so fanatical and was a last kiss goodbyefor her marriage and how it should have been.

I quite like the way Fred seemed sensitive to her in this episode. You could see she realised that even though he was capable of being loving he was also a complete bastard and he was happy being these two seperate people.

boredboredboredboredbored · 18/08/2019 22:36

Can't link it!!

CurbsideProphet · 18/08/2019 22:36

@MazDazzle I think the other 2 were a journalist and something related to computer science (though that oneight not be right).

God it was so tense all the way through. I'm undecided about Serena and whether or not she definitely knew what would happen.

I've not agreed with previous posts that it's been a dull/slow series. Life under such repressive control would mean that acts of resistance would take more time. Everything that has happened led up to events in this episode.

I love watching a tv show where women are working together towards a common goal and not superficially competing with each other. It feels rare.

CurbsideProphet · 18/08/2019 22:37

@which1 I thought signage may have been removed in advance, seeing as though it was a set up.

Try again!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 18/08/2019 22:38

I think the arrest was so carefully planned they either deliberately took him via a route without signs or removed the signs in advance.

loveluster · 18/08/2019 22:38

Serena said this episode to Fred "you'd leave me for a fertile woman" so she's definitely infertile
