Question for people that have watched all of Deep Water

I am so confused by one thing. So Guy and Kate are separated and he had a new family with the au pair. So why was he at the dinner party in the first episode?

I am so confused by this, not sure if I have missed something. Found it a bit hard to follow as not the most interesting programme ever so I might have missed something that explains this

Isn't it because Kate was making him maintain the fiction that they were still married (which is why she was refusing him a divorce?).

I would think it was obvious from the title that there was going to be spoilers as the question was to those that have watched all of the episodes

It’s just some kind of elaborate facade of happy families that they had in place.

I dislike how that played out. He had an affair with the au-pair but kept up a facade on his marriage for appearances sake. I know his ex behaved badly but what a ridiculous thing to agree to - must have been equally distressing for the au-pair. Somehow, he got off Scott free and the woman scorned and her children end utterly damaged by it all.
