I read yesterday that when my lovely David Tennant quits Dr Who at the end of next series it is widely tipped he is going to be replaced with James Nesbitt. Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!! I don't know why but I just find him slimy and repulsive!!

OP posts:
pipsqueeke · 03/08/2007 18:41

it was ment to be him yes- but has it been confirmed that DT is leaving? I'd heard he was going mid series but all of DT's interviews have said nothing iycwim.

Loobeeloo · 03/08/2007 18:43

I have seen James Nesbitt in a whole new light since Jekyll, he was yummy as Mr Hyde, sorry if that offends Bomper but there's something about a bad boy....

pipsqueeke · 03/08/2007 18:44

no give me DT over JN any day! lol.

Loobeeloo · 03/08/2007 19:16

The trouble with DT for me is that I used to have a Scottish boyfriend (well fiance of 7 years actually) who looked and sounded remarkably similar to him but was the biggest psychotic a**hole that ever walked the earth.

So whenever I see DT unfortunately am reminded of him also a David btw.

2shoes · 03/08/2007 21:42

i thought dr who was going to end

sallysparrow · 04/08/2007 20:19

I also heard this. Could it be anything to do with Jeckyll being scripted by one of the Dr Who writers - Stephen Moffat i think?

pipsqueeke · 04/08/2007 20:20

I heard this cos russle davis is leaving but I heard it in the sun so tbh read it but prob not true - haven't seen anything on their web site.

Peachy · 04/08/2007 20:22

I would rpefer Dt to stay as i think a bit of logevity is required after the chris eccleston fast exit, however if he HAS to go then I think JN would be a good bet- not fanciable sadly (and Dh will be grrrrimng as he nearly took our can off the road duringt hat celeb golf tournament thing last year.... lol)

Oh I seeeeeeeeee

celeb golf tournament near cardiff

Dr Who etc in cardiff

do is pot the link I wonder? So as I live near the manor, should I hang round at the next one see if I can see any Dr Who deals being done?

maybe not

Bouquetsofdynomite · 05/08/2007 19:39

Yoga???? My DH winds me up constantly about JN, because I can't stand him so he says I must fancy him. I was surprised to find I didn't mind him in that loose-cannon-maverick-cop-type-show he did, esp when he had a droopy 70s tache. And that Canterbury Tales thing with Billy Piper. Eeeuw that's two things.
I'd rather he wasn't the next Dr Who but it could be worse (eg the sexless Scottish guy from 4 weddings that he always gets muddled up with).

beansprout · 05/08/2007 19:44

John Hannah?

beansprout · 05/08/2007 19:46

the BBC are denying it

But then again, they would, wouldn't they?!!

sallysparrow · 05/08/2007 19:52

Eeurgh not John Hannah - he brushed past me in a London pub once and he had awful BO. Could never see what people saw in him after that!

Bouquetsofdynomite · 05/08/2007 19:56

Ooh what a lovely picture. I've fancied him since we were both teenagers and he was in Takin Over the Assylum as a hypermanic indie kid with Ken Stott.
The only other person I can think who might be a good Dr Who is already James Bond .
Then again, maybe in a few years time, after he's got himself a serious reputation in the West End a la Jamie Theakston, how about Russell Brand?

Bouquetsofdynomite · 05/08/2007 20:01

See how cute he was!

sallysparrow · 05/08/2007 20:18

Russel Brand?

Mind you, theres always been rumours tht one day there would be a female dr. But I think the beeb have ditched that in favour of a female master, surely?

UnquietDad · 05/08/2007 20:24

No, the Nesbitt stiff is all stupid tabloid tittletattle. It's been denied by Steven Moffatt. Russell T Davies leaving isn't true, Doctor Who ending isn't true. Nothing tosee here. Move along.

sallysparrow · 05/08/2007 20:41

Thanks UQD, thats a HUGE weight off my mind!

(How do you know for sure?)

UnquietDad · 05/08/2007 22:04

About Nesbitt? Steve Moffatt posted a message on Outpost Gallifrey and it's been picked up on their news site.

The "ending" stuff, well, they are filming series 4 now. No programme is ever guaranteed - even the producers of Eastenders don't know they will still be making it in 2009 - but with 8m+ viewers and a top 20 place every week, consistently no.1 in its timeslot, top rated programme after the soaps, audience appreciation always in the 80s... The BBC would be daft to let it go. They'd need something big to fill its shoes. That's how they work - if soemone wanted to take Doctor Who off they'd immediatelly be asked what they envisaged going in its place Feb-June every year and getting 8-9m viewers.

sallysparrow · 06/08/2007 09:33

Thats alright then!

RTD leaving would almost be worse because i think the whole tone of the show would change - not necessarily a bad thing, but I do like how its going atm.

UnquietDad · 06/08/2007 10:29

But the programme's survived 30 series over 43 years with several changes of production team. RTD is a "showrunner" which we have never really had before, but he pretty much fulfils the role the producer used to have. Doctor Who had the same producer for 9 years in the 80s and eventually got a bit tired.

sallysparrow · 06/08/2007 11:38

I think I just like the "depth" the seies has now - although that probably has as much to do with the production values, cast and writers they have now.
