Wow! How much does Daniel look exactly like his ancestor in the photo his cousin showed him? It could be him!

Gosh such a sad one. I cried a lot Sad.
Daniel is a lovely person. I've never really seen him on anything as 'himself' before.

BooksAreMyOnlyFriends · 24/07/2019 20:17

And yes the photo was amazing!

BillieEilish · 24/07/2019 20:27

Loved this, he seems so nice.
What a story!

Encyclo · 24/07/2019 20:36

Loved this too. He’s so genuine and lovely. I thought he was so real with his Auntie, that was clearly a very close relationship. He was the spitting image of his ancestor

MrsBosh · 25/07/2019 22:26

He seemed so genuine and nice, didn't he? I just wanted to give his fingernails a little trim and clean though Blush Really interesting stories.
Who else is on this series? I can remember Kate Winslet and Mark Wright from opening credits...

brassbrass · 25/07/2019 22:32

Yes! In every interview I've seen him in he is always consistently genuine. His parents did an absolutely fucking awesome job to keep him sane navigating the business, wealth, sharks and wannabe hangers on. Kudos to them and him for trusting that path amid all the temptations and distractions that must have been on offer. I hope he never loses it as he gets older.

TressiliansStone · 25/07/2019 22:41

Ooh, I have this recorded to watch.

The trailer said he drew on it for My Boy Jack, of which I'm a big fan (though can't watch it too often: it's an utterly gutting film).

Aragog · 25/07/2019 22:43

I don't think he did avoid all temptations. IIRR he was quite heavily drinking before the films had finished being filmed. He doesn't drink now I don't think though.

But yes, he seemed lovely and I really enjoyed this episode a lot.

brassbrass · 25/07/2019 22:47

He had to go through the normal teen risk taking phase surely? Glad he's come out the other end. Still worse things he could have done. I do wish him well. We need more people like him. Humility is such a rare commodity.

TressiliansStone · 27/07/2019 19:44

Oh lord, I've just got to the bit where his aunt hands over the envelope marked "original letters."

I'm going to howl, aren't I?

Have paused to take a deep breath and fetch a clean hanky: the first half about his mother's grandparents was quite sad enough.

LizzieMacQueen · 27/07/2019 20:45

Did you think, was there a bit greyed out of those letters. A confession maybe? If you look there's an odd space.

But yes, interesting stories. They always are on this show.

Think Jack Whitehall and father are in this series. Can't remember who else.

HalleLouja · 27/07/2019 20:53

Naomie Harris is on this too. I used to go to college with her and someone who has been on WDYTYA She’s lovely.

MsTSwift · 27/07/2019 20:58

I listened to it while painting so didn’t see the pictures but god it was moving. The jeweller grandfathers letter to his wife before he killed him self and poor uncle Ernie killed by a shell.

ChampooPapi · 31/07/2019 09:16

But how did he kill himself? And why didn't they go more into the diamond mine stuff in Kimberly?

I always enjoy it but they never go as deep as I'd like, it would be better a little longer and much more historical information, especially on the last Naomi Harris one, it really could have been longer, dug deeper generally and given much more historical information on indentured slavery and slaves in the Caribbean.

Just when it's getting really interesting they move on !

diddl · 01/08/2019 08:58

It was sad, wasn't it?

I was wondering if he was involved or not, especially with the previous claims.

And how much he loved his family & to leave them to face it alone.

I would have liked to have known what happened to Jeannie was it who had married Ernie?
