Now, there’s a question. How are social relations between daemon animals and animal animals??

CurlyhairedAssassin · 25/11/2019 18:01

Yes, and someone’s comment about Hester not eating the bacon made me wonder about whether vegetarianism would be a big thing there. If they are all so close to their animal daemons, how would they view eating something that looks exactly the same but for meat? It would be like us eating another human, surely?

I loved Trollesund. It all looked exactly like I imagined but I hated the stupid bar brawl. It just went all cowboy film all of a sudden. I mean, I know Lee is Texan, but was it really necessary for him to do something so stereotypical?

I was doubtful about Lin but I think he was wonderful in the role.

And Dafne was perfect in this episode. She has really improved since the vacant characterless way she portrayed Lyra in episode 1.

Iorek was perfect too.

At the end it showed what looked like only a small group of them off to Bolvangar. I thought there were loads of Gyptians who went there? Almost an army of them?

parrotonmyshoulder · 25/11/2019 18:08

22 hours later and DD is still complaining about the lack of Snow Goose!
The problem with not having everyone with daemons is that TV only viewers would surely not have an understanding of how important they are, and the very nature of them. So you would think that the horror of intercission, and later book events, would not come through.
Just a bird on each shoulder, or a mouse in a pocket, or cats weaving through legs, would have been enough.

EBearhug · 25/11/2019 18:48

I assumed the dog on a lead was just a dog, rather than a daemon...

None of them seem to have pets, though. Also, none of them have big daemons like cow, horse, elephant, bear. Asriel's snow leopard seems about as big as it gets.
You'd really notice the elephant in the room...

EBearhug · 25/11/2019 18:50

And meant to add - maybe working animals, though. The guards at the Magisterium all seemed to have sleek black Doberman or similar. I wonder how likely it was to have such similar daemons.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 25/11/2019 19:13

I don't think Lee and Hester work. Too Disneyesque and in my mind Lee is much more weathered and older.

Fada Coram is excellent and Lyra is improving loads. Iorek was wonderful.

It's years since I read the books but the timeline is confusing me as I didn't think we knew about the movement between Lyras world and ours until Will in Book 2.

I am.enjoying it though as is dh and ds (aged 23!).

SurpriseSparDay · 25/11/2019 19:27

Just what we’ve been waiting for:

Discover your daemon!

SurpriseSparDay · 25/11/2019 19:27

(Perfectly respectable BBC game.)

WaterSheep · 25/11/2019 19:29

The guards at the Magisterium all seemed to have sleek black Doberman or similar. I wonder how likely it was to have such similar daemons.

As daft as it sounds that irritates me. I understand a dog being a sign of an obedient person, but having identikit daemons spoils the very idea of a daemon. They reflect the person. Even if you had an army of obedient workers their daemons should be sightly different, as each individual person is different.

BoreOfWhabylon · 25/11/2019 19:36

My daemon is a goshawk!

Or possibly a stag beetle (I did it twice)

willowmelangell · 25/11/2019 19:41

My daemon was a silk moth. (BBC game)

Fizzypoo · 25/11/2019 19:44

I'm a red squirrel!

EoinMcLovesCakeJumper · 25/11/2019 20:07

Ooh, I've got a crested gecko. Not far off what my actual pets are!

CalmConfident · 25/11/2019 20:11

I got a pine marten. DS1 a wildcat, ds2 a banana snake Confused

CalmConfident · 25/11/2019 20:12

Banana Kingsnake

AnotherEmma · 25/11/2019 20:19

I realised enjoyed last night's episode (and I moaned about the others!)

No more annoying plot reveals and it seems to be more faithful to the book plot. Perhaps they can focus more on the main story now they've set the scene for various things. I do love the sense of anticipation in this part of the story, and the meetings with Iorek and Lee.

Bring on next week!

AnotherEmma · 25/11/2019 21:07

Ooh I got a pine marten that must mean I'm a bit like Lyra Smile
It was fun, I was expecting a boring quiz but it was a bit more interactive!

ClownsandCowboys · 25/11/2019 21:07

I got silk moth. Was slightly disappointed (secretly wanted a tiger or leopard or similar), but the description was nice.

Loopytiles · 25/11/2019 21:17

Fun! I got blue tit Grin

AnnabellaFagina · 25/11/2019 21:21

Lyra portrayal constantly reminds me of Greta Thunberg. I suspect this wasn’t an accident. I got wildcat, which I’m really happy with.

purpleme12 · 25/11/2019 21:54

Greta Thunberg? Well I can't say she makes me think of her!

Bimbleberries · 25/11/2019 22:24

I got a black skink! sounds awful, but the description is quite nice.

madeyemoodysmum · 25/11/2019 22:33

So proud. I’m a wildcat

ImTheCaddy · 25/11/2019 23:25

Waaah I'm a Banana Kingsnake

NationMcKinley · 25/11/2019 23:26

I got a weasel!
