And there are more of them - so multiple men and daemons will easily be able to overpower a child and daemon, with the element of surprise, the physical superiority in strength of the men v child, and higher numbers. Plus remember that humans and daemons feel each other's pain so you only need to overpower one to disable them both.

There's a fight between the children in the first book and Pan turns into a Dragon. Lyra is quite snobby about some of the town children because they aren't imaginative to turn their dæmons into animals that will win a fight. That's hinted at in the TV series when Lyra and Roger have the discussion in the crypt about what their dæmons will settle as, Lyra and Pan have talked about it together but Roger hasn't thought about it at all.

The lack of daemons is really bothering me tonight. When Mrs Coulter visits the Magisterium, and none of the men seems to have one! I think I saw a lizard daemon there and that was it. At least there were a few in the bar fight.

I know it must be expensive to animate them but they could just have dogs running at their heels! Or a tiny mouse or something.

They have got the daemon-human link dead right finally with Lee and Hester. We should be seeing a lot more of that.

Dd was getting very angry at this episode. If they really have replaced Tony Makarios with Billy Costa as the ghost child in the village next week she'll be fuming.

Also, we've not seen Ma Costa this week yet they brought her North because she was on the boat last week with Lyra. What was the point in that?

I agree, it's much more of an emotional connection compared to what we have seen so far. However it did highlight how passive and absent the other characters Deamons have been.
