Netflix & Sky - any recommendations for my quiet weekend?

Netflix/Sky recommendations for my quiet weekend of tv indulging?

Things I love:

The Crown
Peaky Blinders
Greys Anatomy
Scandal
Station 19
Handmaids Tale
Game Of Thrones
Downtown Abbey
Derry Girls
Prison Break

Things I liked but didn’t love:

Suits
Walking Dead
Breaking Bad
Orange Is the New Black

I don’t know if that helps at all. I have a very stressful job and find more and more these days that I need to gripped quickly or can’t get into it. I like strong female characters, a good romance plot, but otherwise a real mix.

Any suggestions? I have sky and netflix.

Watched the first episode of Chernobyl twice - on second episode now - but it's just not grabbing me!

If you like cop / crime dramas, The Shield is now on All 4 and IMO is one of the best TV shows of all time.

If Barry is available on Sky, watch that - brilliant, dark and funny

beargrass · 19/07/2019 20:24

When They See Us

It's outstanding

jacquettalux · 19/07/2019 21:30

Thanks both!

Is the Shield fairly new or more of a classic?

I've heard of When they See Us, all good things!

Good Girls is brilliant, as is Justified but that's Prime

The Shield is amazing, quite old now and not very light viewing but sooo good

flowerycurtain · 19/07/2019 21:38

I'm amazed Chernobyl didn't grab you.

I've loved big little lies recently

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/07/2019 21:39

A simple favour is a great film on Netflix.

RandomNameChange415 · 19/07/2019 21:41

Killing Eve (iPlayer)

val4 · 19/07/2019 21:41

Loved Good Girls and Big Little Lies. Also Dead to me and You.

SinkGirl · 19/07/2019 21:43

The Shield is a classic (aired from 2002-2008). I only saw it for the first time about 2014 / 2015 and we blitzed through it all because we couldn’t stop watching. It just gets better and better until the end. We’ve been rewatching it recently and down to the last few episodes and I’ve bitten off all my fingernails and I know what’s coming Grin

YogaDrone · 19/07/2019 21:43

Stranger Things on Netflix
Big Little Lies on Sky
Lucifer is great but the earlier series are on Prime and only the most recent on Netflix.

Redtartanshoes · 19/07/2019 21:43

Big little lies also and riviera

PixieLumos · 19/07/2019 21:46

I’ve just watched Chernobyl this week and found it so gripping - it was hard to stop thinking about it, it really stayed with me and it’s a long time since I’ve watched anything like it. I also watched bits of episode one again after the last as it made more sense when things were explained more in later episodes (the science was a bit beyond me at first). Episode 3 is really harrowing. So maybe worth another try?

PixieLumos · 19/07/2019 21:47

I also watched Alias Grace on Netflix a while ago, also very gripping.

FredaFrogspawn · 19/07/2019 21:49

If you don’t mind subtitles, the Swedish series ‘Bonus Family’ is good viewing - well developed characters you grow to love and some humour and tragedy woven in.

Lurleene · 19/07/2019 21:49

I recommend Good Girls too, especially as you like strong female characters.

Also the second series of Keeping Faith starts on Tuesday so you could watch series 1 on BBC iplayer ready for then.

blackcat86 · 19/07/2019 21:52

another vote for good girls. Dead to me and you, me, her on Netflix are also fab.

verystressedmum · 19/07/2019 21:55

When they see us, big little lies, good girls
Watch these!

verystressedmum · 19/07/2019 21:55

And Dead To Me

CuriousMama · 19/07/2019 22:00

I've put a Simple favour on.

Lightlover2018 · 19/07/2019 22:41

@FredaFrogspawn I love Bonus Family too. It's so funny, touching and real - very observant about family life. Strong female characters too. Best thing I've watched for years. And because it's in Swedish and you have to read the subtitles it stops me looking at my phone, so it's much more absorbing!

PixieLumos · 19/07/2019 22:49

The alienist on Netflix

applecatchers36 · 19/07/2019 22:52

Killing Eve series 1&2 iplayer
The last czars, Netflix
Dark money, iplayer

myrtleWilson · 19/07/2019 22:53

queer eye 4!

RosaWaiting · 19/07/2019 22:54

I just watched two episodes of Chernobyl, good but heavy of course.

Second Killing Eve.

Two very different suggestions here

Madam Secretary

And The Haunting of Hill House. But....that one is really scary.

I’m hearing good things about the Kominsky brothers, next on my list.
