My husband and two teenage boys have always watched Top Gear ,even through the sad years with Chris Evans et al. I wasn't too bothered when they introduced the new team Paddy, Chris and Freddie but I am hooked. Finally a programme that combines humour ,education and just good telly on a subject I wouldn't normally be interested in. I have a very soft spot for Paddy but the combination of these three personalities is very enjoyable ,I think .

I loved the chris harris/matt le blanc combo - by the last series they did it was fab and was worried about this new line up.
First few episodes of this series were a bit stilted and I didn't like the 'gang up and bully the little guy' feel that the first couple of shows had. They seem to have dropped/reedited that approach in the last episode and I enjoyed it more last night. They are not polished and I don't think the new guys are any good on the actual car content/talking about the driving, but I do enjoy the jokes and the entertainment that they give.

I enjoyed the last episode in particular and was also uncomfortable about the "pick on the little guy" stuff. Interesting if they have re-edited it to show more respect for Chris H's knowledge and skill.
I am also pleased by the affection shown to a gay man and total petrolhead, Will Young (I think him and Clarkson should do that show they talked about as a joke, btw).
Paddy McGuinness is a really good presenter - I didn't think he would be.
Flintoff is ...ok ... and I love the strong accents he and McGuinness have - I'm from Lancashire and even I find it tricky sometimes.
I miss Rory Reid, though

Paddy is one very good reason to watch it!

Really enjoying the new series too.

@bellinisurge I'm originally from Lancashire too. Irish DH keeps asking for translation!

I loved the "Give over, you're from Preston, you've seen worse" or whatever it was Paddy said to Freddie in Borneo. That was something less than about 500,000 people in the world would get.

Given that we've been to quite a few family events at the club that was the basis for the Phoenix club that made Paddy (and I guess Peter Kay as well!) we are also enjoying the northern references.
But we have also said that there's a good chance they may not last more than 1 or 2 series for the same reason and that there's probably a lot more people whinging about the northern references and jokes!

I actually struggled to watch Phoenix Nights because it was too close to my personal experiences. Grin

I am from Preston! If you have the box set of Phoenix Nights the commentary is also hilarious. Due for a rewatch I think.
