Serena was gracious as to how well Simona played - I was a bit sad that Sue rather dimmed that with her comments tbh - there was no need to diminish Simona's achievement .

Serena is a legend, but she simply didn’t show up today. That was the worst match I have ever seen her play. There was no movement, no speed, no intensity, nothing. If she wants to win more slams, she needs to play more, get fitter and work much, much harder.

Have to say, Serena was gracious in defeat aswell.

But JSmith I am amazed she still gets this far all the time. I can imagine a difficult pregnancy would set you back a few years and in her 30s, playing younger people, the injuries and she did document how hard her pregnancy was. Like someone said upthread, I would love a new mum to win this.

Pre the match I wanted Serena to win but today Simona was absolutely cracking and I am delighted she won. Totally deserved.

It was annihilation.

Serena looked like a lumbering walrus in comparison to Halep and it doesn't say much about the other players that she got to the final.......

I could hardly watch the end of it - my hear was in my mouth thinking Serena was going to stage a comeback.

Fantastic match. Simona dazzled (and amazed the BBC pundits). Cool and efficient and kept up the pressure! Very humble in victory, and Serena was classy in defeat.
