And a different voice of Doom has spoken!

More medical issues here for dd means that my tennis viewing hours have been been zero this week but I am very excited/nervous about tomorrow and will hopefully actually get see some of the tennis.
The women's matches looked dull from the score line.
I don't think I can face watching the women's final on Saturday with the Serena bias.

CilantroChili · 11/07/2019 22:45

“Hallo zusammen,

GOAT here.

As I sit in My quiet room, small staff member in the corner should I need anything, I share My thoughts with you. Looking out through the window, in a comfy chair, legs tucked underneath the bottoms, I make the contemplations faces about tomorrow.

I know you’re all excited, nervous, apprehensionate even. You may be encouraged to go onto the social media and start arguing with complete strangers about some obscure statistic, because this is why the internet technology was invented. Well, that and cat videos.

“However, let’s turn the leaves together. Let us love each other and enjoy watching Me and Rafaello play the tennis. Will he end up with more Slams than Me? Sure why not, this is the competitive sport.

Why hate the person next to you because they don’t support Me? Is this unimaginable and slightly offensive? Of course, but let them be wrong. Hug each other and try and help each other in your little lives. You have work on Monday, I don’t.

It is 11 years since that final and who knows when we will meet again? It may be in another 11 years, unless Rafaello retires, I won’t, just saying

Take the deep breath, reach out to someone you’d rather avoid and offer them an oak branch, a foot of friendship, your last square of the chocolate bar.

The court is a lot slower this year so…

Tschüss!
PF xx”

I do Cilantro - very funny Grin

CilantroChili · 11/07/2019 22:46

Hope your dd is feeling better soon Mama Flowers

PrivateIsles · 11/07/2019 22:50

I do as well - really funny. I'd love to know who's behind it Grin

mama sorry to hear about your DD, I hope she's ok now - and that you are too Flowers

Hopefully you'll get to watch some tennis over the next few days. I know what you mean about the women's final - but I think Simona should play a good match. She looked v relaxed in her press conference - I know the final is a bit different - but I think she will have a good crack at it.

CilantroChili · 12/07/2019 01:33

Another fun fact: the 2008 Fedal Match (yes I’m still watching) 🤪 was The longest final in 28 years* 😬

*Not sure if that record has been broken since?

PrivateIsles · 12/07/2019 06:13

I think it's still the longest Cilantro. Fed - Roddick the following year was really long as well but I think the record is still 2008.

The80sweregreat · 12/07/2019 06:31

I remember all the rain breaks and some great tennis in 08. No roof of course.

I'm often surprised that we never see Pete Sampras at Wimbledon in the veteran areas! Any idea why ?
He held records for slam wins for a while I think? I used to like him.

Raahh · 12/07/2019 07:24

I gave up on my laptop last night. It decided it just didn't want to play ball.

Private MIdsomer Murders???! Grin
I, well, no...There are no words.

Mama I hope your dd is ok. Flowers

PeudoFed is funny.

80s I couldn't stand Sampras!Grin always had his big flobby tongue hanging out. He was/is the same age as me, and one of the few big players I've ever seen live.

DD2 is still ill. I hope she's ok next week, transition week at school. Also I think they are getting angsty over how much time she's had off this year. It's really not the sort of thing I can send her in with, though Hmm.

The weather here is awful, wet and gloomy- the storm last night was just the start. But I'm willing to hope it stays here, and doesn't make it's way down South Grin (I can be generous like that).

Very nervous about the match. A repeat of RG, score wise, would be very nice, thank you.

The big dilemma I have is- do I crack open the Aldi Pimms at 4pm (or whenever the match starts), save it for the final, or will I end up necking vodka from the safety of the stairs, when it all gets a bit stressful?

Grin

Fizzywinegum · 12/07/2019 08:34

Raahh start gently with a few Pimms (it is almost a health food after all!) and have the vodka on hand in case it goes to five sets and they put the roof on Grin

It’s quite hot and sunny here (a long way from Wimbledon!) - hoping for no rain today. I’ve already been for a swim Halo (age related insomnia!) so can sit on the settee all afternoon and evening guilt free Smile - I would do anyway!

The80s I think Sampras is known for not really being involved in tennis any more - he’s very rarely seen at tournaments even if a player is about to beat one of his records - not sure why. I was never that keen on him either - I found him quite boring to watch and yes that tongue!

Raahh · 12/07/2019 08:44

Fizzy I think Pimms counts as most of your 5 a day if you fill it with enough stuffGrin.

(I make the same claim for sangria).

I will keep the vodka lose- I'm not up to 5 sets , and it will be a disaster and deja vu, all over again, if the roof goes on!

If it rains a little bit- them stops- will they open the roof, or just keep playing with it shut? I can't remember. It's not like the covers, is it- a bit too much hassle to keep opening and closing it.

It starting absolutely bucketing down with rain here when I left to take dd1 to school, and hasn't stopped since. The dog is in a huff. He won't even go in the garden if it's raining. Grin.

If we are going to get a lengthy, interesting match, I'd rather it be the Busta one. (with Busta winning it, obviously).

GrouchyKiwi · 12/07/2019 08:50

I've watched no tennis this year. Have been too kind to my children. And now on Sunday I have to choose between cricket, Formula 1 and tennis. It's very bad planning.

bookbook · 12/07/2019 08:57

just a quick check in , rushing around a bit this morning to clear a bit of time for this afternoon
I offer the oak branch and the foot of friendship to all you Raffa fans, but not my last square of chocolate Grin

magimedi · 12/07/2019 09:00

Grouchy F1 has been so boring this year I think it would be last on my list!

bookbook · 12/07/2019 09:03

ooh, I have liked the F1 this year , not quite so predictable . We watch highlights , so not such a total conflict of interest here

GrouchyKiwi · 12/07/2019 09:06

I mostly agree, magi, but Silverstone is always a good race - it's my second favourite track after Spa.

Suspect cricket will win, though. My Black Caps in the final and I get to watch it on free-to-air for a change.

books Highlights are generally more enjoyable than the full race at the moment.

Steala · 12/07/2019 09:07

So excited about this afternoon! Need to smash through my work so I can enjoy it guilt-free.

Steala · 12/07/2019 09:19

Oh, I hated the Sampras era. I love rallies, invention and determination. The odd ace to get you out of a hole, fine; four aces a game -boring!

Raahh · 12/07/2019 09:25

Private I've just realised I watched the very Midsomer Murders episode that was aired on that day, the other week! Blood Wedding! (I have them all on my tivo planner- and they say the original air dateGrin)

It was the episode featuring his daughter's wedding, and Elisabeth Dermott Walsh- (who now stars in Doctors).

OP posts:
PrivateIsles · 12/07/2019 10:03

Raahh Grin yes that's right! It was Cully's wedding but obviously Tom was called to a case - would he make it back in time to give Cully away?! Grin

Err apparently - that's what I heard anyway.

PrivateIsles · 12/07/2019 10:05

Grouchy we're in a tennis v cricket situation on Sunday as well - I think kiwi DH is going to the pub to watch some of the cricket. Don't these event schedulers talk to each other?! Hmm

PrivateIsles · 12/07/2019 10:08

I completely agree with your post about the Sampras era Steala except that I absolutely loved Goran. The problem was when he played Sampras/Rusedski/Krajicek etc - just blasting serves at each other and no rallies. That was bloody tedious I'll give you that. But Goran's personality always made things interesting!
