Re watching derry girls and in the finale of series 1 when orla dances in the talent contest she orginally did it to madonna like a prayer. But i watched it today and they changed it to take take pray. Anyone else noticed this?? I wonder why?

It will just be for music rights reasons. They can vary depending on the platform the programme is showing on.

I think it's something to do with music rights, with the old song not being able to be used. I've noticed this in a few shows I used to have on dvd Vs Netflix or ones I've watch on American Netflix Vs UK. It's a bit of a shame most of the time if the scene is particularly memorable and the change of music ruins it.

I've noticed this in other programmes on Netflix. In fact one actually cut a scene of a character singing.

Thing i cant understand is if they changed it for a american audience then surely they would have recognised the madonna song far better than a take that one???

No it's just whether the music is licensed on Netflix vs licenced on TV.

AtillatheHun · 10/07/2019 15:51

channel 4 has a blanket licence for use of music on its platforms but it may have had to be relicensed for Netflix and it was too expensive? shame though as the Madonna worked so well for so many reasons!

We watched an episode of Gavin and Stacey the other day. DH said the music had changed in the first episode when they're in the club. I wouldn't have noticed but he is much more observant and said it must be something to do with music rights running out?

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 10/07/2019 15:56

This happened with the final episode of friends. When it first aired on C4 the group all left the apartment to hoobastank’s “the reason” but every time I’ve seen it since then it’s been something else (can’t remember what)

Loads of the music changed, no Dropkick Murphy's used either 😥

Ah! I was watching some old Doctor Who episodes once and I noticed that they'd cut a scene where the Master was dancing around to a Scissor Sisters song. It didn't even occur to me that it might be because of music rights but now it makes sense.

I love Derry Girls but the music is half the fun of it. Not sure I want to rewatch if they've mucked it about.

RuggerHug · 15/07/2019 19:36

Just finished rewatching it and the music changes are really obvious if you've seen it before. Even Johnny Cash is a cover version and no Salt-n-Pepa!

RuggerHug · 15/07/2019 19:37

Oh but they keep Holiday by Madonna in the 12th July episode, doesn't make sense to change like a prayer. (I'm overinvested I know)
