Just caught a clip of this by accident it looks fascinating I will go back and watch it later.

theliverpoolone · 08/07/2019 22:16

This episode was fab - Kathleen Jr was indeed lovely, and the way things worked out for her was fantastic (not saying too much, if you're watching on catch-up!).

GrandmasNightie · 08/07/2019 22:17

I'm watching on plus one too. Already in tears!
Saw the daughters interviewed on gmb this morning - they were amazing. Nicky Campbell said this was the most extraordinary story he had ever covered and could do a whole series on them. Think a lot of tissues will be needed

HeartZone · 08/07/2019 22:17

Absolutely amazing!

ineedaholidaynow · 08/07/2019 22:29

Watching on catch up too

HollowTalk · 08/07/2019 22:31

The daughters were amazing but I thought their mum was very cold. I had to laugh at the brother - what was he on?

ineedaholidaynow · 08/07/2019 22:35

Must admit I haven't warmed to the mum so far

ssd · 08/07/2019 22:39

I didn't warm to the mum either. The daughters were full of emotion but I didn't see any in the mum. Strange. Anyway I think the daughters will be firm friends now. And Kathleen's brother, what a character!

GrandmasNightie · 08/07/2019 22:46

To be fair to the mum, who is in her 80s, she has spent a lifetime locking away those emotions and possibly being matter of fact about it. If she was cold she wouldn't have agreed to meet Kathleen Jnr and wouldn't have offered up the information about Jean.
When you make the decision to give up a baby it is amazing how you detach yourself - doesn't mean it doesn't hurt like hell inside though.

ineedaholidaynow · 08/07/2019 22:57

The brother is definitely on something!

Chottie · 09/07/2019 04:25

What a wonderful ending for Kathleen Jr and Jean.

I thought that Kathleen Snr seemed in shock, the fact that her daughters had found her after all those years, all those emotions that must have been going through her. There was very little said about either of Kathleen's and Jean's fathers. In the 1950s, there was a lot of prejudice against mixed race relationships. I would love to watch a follow up programme about Kathleen and Teddy going to Jamaica.

ssd · 09/07/2019 09:06

Yes I'd like to see that too!

Smallfacesfan · 09/07/2019 14:37

I thought the mother was cold too. No sign of any emotion when she hugged her daughters.

thedevondumpling · 09/07/2019 14:40

It seemed odd that they made such a big deal about Jean and Teddy, who are her half siblings, but their other half siblings were almost ignored.

fuckfuckfuckitall · 09/07/2019 15:16

Their mum is very, very similar to my grandmother , and from same area I think ... and I think same religious background possibly . More coincidences with the name but won’t go into that on here !

Was like watching my grandmother , it’s the same mannerisms - would appear cold . The love is there with my Granny but she doesn’t show it , she’s a very hardened person ... not one for a hug nor would she tell you she loved you very often - in fact I don’t remember her saying it at all until I was well into my twenties . Very similar from what I could tell .

Kinraddie · 09/07/2019 20:47

Agree with Nicky, what a fantastic episode. Kathleen seems like such a lovely, loving woman and I'm so happy she has found her birth family/relations. Very moving.
